Most of us know that eating home grown vegetables is not only healthy for us, but can be fun and rewarding too. However, many of us tend to choose against it, making excuses of "I'm not green-fingered" or "I don't have a garden". B&Q is aiming to change this perception by launching its campaign, Back to the Good Life to encourage the nation to grow their own. For only an hour of light gardening each week, you can feed your whole family with nutritious home grown produce. It's not even essential to have a garden - you can easily grow fresh fruit and vegetables in pots or even window boxes.
B&Q stocks over 160 different types of vegetable seeds and plants – from Organic Chilli Pepper Jalapeno plants to Rocket seeds, there's plenty of options to suit even the most unique tastes. To help get you started B&Q has put together a helpful guide. It's packed with advice on selecting the right seeds and plants for your garden, and even features some tasty recipe suggestions for your family and friends to enjoy.
To provide you with inspiration and to prove just how easy it is, we will follow the developments of three amateur gardeners aiming to grow their own from a window box, a roof terrace and a back garden. Emily, Katie and Sara are completely new to gardening and will keep a regular diary of their progress over the coming weeks.
B&Q is also offering free advisory texts, from April to October, to help you create your very own kitchen garden. In order to receive this free service*, simply text JOIN to 62636. You can register between 8th and 22nd April.
Why not get Back to the Good Life and you'll be surprised at the satisfaction you get from having grown your own!
