How to dry-line a wall

How to dry-line a wall

Dry-lining a wall means attaching plasterboard to a wall, which gives you a smooth finish to decorate straight away. It's much easier to get a good result this way than with wet plaster and it is easier alternative to re-plastering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really impressed with the result We had a room that was 2mx2.4m, so needed two of these. Once we'd watched the YouTube video Artex made, it was pretty easy to do and worked well. The secret seems to be 1) stir it really well, 2) remember to sand the end of the large applicator lightly and use the small scraper to knock off the bigger lumps (if your ceiling was stippled like ours and it is safe to do so), 3) slap the first coat on and don't expect miracles - it will be a little rough but you smooth it on the next coat and you can sand it down - if it drops off the ceiling too readily then use a plant water mister to wet the ceiling (not near electrics!), 4) want it a bit smoother on the first coat? use a plant water mister to wet it on the ceiling and spread over it with a wet, clean larger applicator 5) wait 24 hours before the second coat then apply a lighter coat, having wet the ceiling with the water mister liberally beforehand 6) don't expect you won't get dollops on the floor - but if it's clean enough scrape it up and use it. Our ceiling was painted artex - if yours isn't then I'd suggest a PVA + water mix first as otherwise I expect it would be much more difficult to get it to stick. In any event, it needs to be a clean and dust-free surface to start with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Artex Easifix Good product. However better to apply using a proper trowel and not the plastic spatula tool which comes with the product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard work I used it on an artexed ceiling. It was very hard work. The product was too dry and more was going on the floor than the ceiling. On the second coat I added water to the tub and it went on much easier but the finish was not great. Course I didn't really know what I was doing, but I learnt as I went and got better at it which improved the finish. It is not as easy to use as they want you to believe.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Use finishing plaster The product works if you're willing to take hours to get it right. I found the product only covered a small area and doesn't leave a great finish unless you do 3 coats. I would recommend using finishing plaster with the proper tools, it will save you a great deal of time, give you a finish no worse than the above product and save you £s.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T WAIST YOUR MONEY! DO ADD WATER! It was going off before the lid came off..After mixing water into it it continually need water spraying onto it when being applied ! It was difficult to get it to stick and not a very smooth finish! Plaster is 90% cheaper and easier to apply! Rubbish product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T WAIST YOUR MONEY! Pros.......None! Cons.......It's 90% more expensive and more difficult to use than plaster! It was going off before I opened the lid, needed water mixing in..It constantly need spraying with water when applying (Mid November with no heating in!), which wasn't easy as it has poor adhesion. ..A truly poor product DON'T BUY IT!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid this it's rubbish Don't know why B&Q sell this rubbish it's totally useless. I've turned my hand to most DIY jobs but this stuff just doesn't work. It doesn't stick to the Artex and I followed the preparation instructions to the letter. Take my advice and avoid

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not do what it states on the 'tin' This so does not work. Left the ceiling with more ridges than I started with. The youtube video does not properly reflect the difficulty using this product. It has been an expensive waste of money
