Questions to ask before you begin

Which room in the house are you painting?

What goes on in the room you are planning to paint? Maybe you are painting a kitchen or bathroom that would benefit from a moisture-resistant paint. Some rooms might need an extra hard-wearing paint which can be wiped down and cleaned such as hallways, landings or kid’s bedrooms. Finding the right paint isn’t just about which colour you pick. We have different types of paint designed for use in different rooms. By choosing the paint that is specially designed for the type of room you are painting, you will get the best end result.

What type of surface are you painting?

There are different types of paint for different surface materials. As well as a comprehensive selection of emulsion paints for walls and ceilings, we have a wide range of specialist paint including ones that are designed for wood furniture, brick walls, and tiles. Choosing the right paint for the right material will ensure a longer-lasting result and the best coverage.

What kind of look are you going for?

Maybe your home has quite a traditional look and would suit a subtle, matt effect paint. Or perhaps you have a more contemporary style that would look great with a satin or metallic finish paint. When selecting paint, think about what you want the final look to be, so that you can choose the correct finish as well as the right colour.

How much time do you have to complete your decorating project?

If you need to get your painting job done quickly, we have a wide range of quick-drying options that will help you get a whole room decorated in a few hours. We have quick dry wall paint, primers, and wood and metal paint to help you make the most of your time whatever you are painting.

What state is the surface in?

Some of our interior paints can be applied directly to the surface. Others may require a bit of preparation before you can begin painting. Perhaps you are painting a freshly plastered surface or previously untreated wood, or maybe you need to fill in some holes or sand down an uneven surface. We have paints and primers for all sorts of surfaces that will help you achieve a nice, even finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful effect I bought this to paint over white embossed paper. I was a bit dubious but have the say the effect is fantastic. Paper looks really expensive and the shine when the light is on it is beautiful. Really easy to apply and goes a long way. I done 2 coats on the walls at either side of the chimney breast & still have just under half a tub left over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it!!!!!!! Bought this paint, really fast delivery. I did what I always do and not read the instructions instead put it on using a very large brush basket weave. Loved how it turned out so much I painted a rocking chair. Small tubs but really go a long way. Going to faux paint another room now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from true to discription i have painted jam jars with this product for garden lights and it works a treat. It gives a beautiful nacre finish to glass and a quick wax over the top seals it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful finish I bought thus a month ago and I am totally delighted with the beautiful finish of the paint. It does exactly what it says on the tin- a stunning, soft pearlised finish. I used it on embossed paper and the light reflecting surface enhanced the paper, turning it into an expensive, classy finish. People constantly ask me how I achieved it. The paint also went a lot further than it said on the tin

Rated 5 out of 5 by from pearlescent bought this for a feature wall in the conservatory. Beautiful effect, exactly as it says on the tub.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful Painted over plain white wall and it was a patchy horrible mess. Waste of money buying two tubs, wouldn’t recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive waste of time. It looks beautiful in the tin but when you put it on it goes on like water and doesn't cover the previous paint. I've put two coats on but it's still blotchy and looks awful. I think it must need some base coat first. There's only enough in the tin for two coats on one wall.
