Product Information

This Olive tree satin wood & metal paint has been specially designed to give a durable and long-lasting finish on wood & metal. Simply apply 1 coat with a brush or roller and leave for 12 hours to dry - a great way to give the surfaces additional protection. Covers up to 10 m² per litre on average.

Features and Benefits

At B&Q we want you to be satisfied with your colour selection. Not all monitors will display colours the same and paint tins may not show the same colour as your walls do in natural light. We therefore recommend you order a tester pot online or pop in store to pick one up so you are sure that this is the right colour for you.

  • Great coverage in just one coat, saving you time and money
  • We recommend using a one coat roller for optimal application
  • For best results follow the instructions on the tin carefully, a second coat may be required if overpainting a darker colour with a lighter top coat

How to guides

How to prepare walls for painting

How to prepare walls for painting

While it can be tempting to get painting as soon as possible when you want to decorate a room, it’s worth taking the time to make sure your room and surfaces are best prepared before you begin. Getting the preparation right is crucial to achieving the perfect finish. It’ll also help to keep things neater and cleaner, and reduce the need for additional coats of paint. No paint can completely cover dirty or uneven surfaces, so tackling this at the start of the project avoids the need for extra work later on.

In this guide we’ll walk you through the most important steps to take, and show you how to;

  • Empty your room ready for decorating, and protect fixtures and fittings you aren't painting
  • Clean your walls to help paint adhere
  • Fill holes and cracks and smooth your walls for the best possible finish
  • Prime stained surfaces or those which have not been painted before

Once you've completed these tasks you should have a smooth, even surface ready to be painted.

If you're painting on bare wood, plaster or metal surfaces, you'll get a better result if you use a primer first. It provides a surface which the paint can bond to and stops the paint being absorbed. Find out more what you need and for what surface.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely colour! All of our walls and ceilings are white, this is a lovely colour for woodwork - even just the skirting boards add a little life and works well with our walnut coloured floorboards

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely to work with & lovely colour I used this satin finish paint on interior pine doors. It covers beautifully, very easy to apply. Olive Tree shade is not too green, a puttyish shade of pale green, just perfect on my doors. Pls note it is quite glossy for satin finish, so brush stokes do catch the light so use a fine brush to get a nice finish. I would buy again. Very pleased with the finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Paint The colour of this paint was exactly as expected from the colour chart, and it went on easily without any tendency to run or drip excessively. The name could be considered a little misleading, as it did take 2 coats to cover evenly in my experience, and it did take a further day or two to fully cure and harden off...just as all oil based paints used to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely fashionable colour great quality This was cheap yellow pine rather nasty chest of drawers. Am very pleased with result using the olive paint. Remember to prepare well.....sand down; wipe off; knot, prime & undercoat (ronseal all in one is good)and dont rush the job!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not very olive in colour I bought this to paint a 6x6 ft shed. This sized tin covered 3 sides just about. It's not very olive in colour as the name suggests. More grey with a hint of olive green. It's covered very well with one coat. It's very thick. All in all I'm happy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Non-drying paint It's now a month since I painted the wooden legs and frame of our kitchen table. Colour and coverage is good, but not one coat. However, the paint takes forever to dry, and to date almost a month has elapsed and the paint has not dried fully, leaving marks on hands and clothing. Even the paint around the rim of the tin lid is still tacky. Given that your labour is the most valuable part of any painting project, I'd suggest trying something else. Half used tin returned today but the store would only issue a credit note. Stick to Dulux...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from NOT what is says on the tin. Did I miss something? I bought this paint to do my skirtings in the kitchen. I bought SATIN but when I opened the tin, it had the greasy scent of gloss. I began to paint and the consistency was that of a gloss paint, which I don't like and is the reason I chose satin. I painted inside with doors and windows open on a dry, sunny day. The instructions said re-coat in 12 hours (which I initially thought was odd as it is described as a 'one coat' paint) 18 hours later and it is still sticky, although it does need another coat because I applied the first coat thinly and it is patchy. It has a gloss finish, not satin :( I will take it back and ask to exchange it for another tin. I will update with my results.....watch this space...... On the plus side, it is a wonderful colour and complements the Dulux Overtly Olive kitchen paint beautifully :)
