Buying guides

Kitchen sink buying guide

Kitchen sink buying guide

Choosing the right kitchen sink is about more than just design. Important for washing hands, rinsing vegetables, cleaning up afterwards and so much more, it’s something you’ll use every day. With that in mind, you need to make sure that you’ve chosen the right type of material, style and have added the perfect accessories to make it work for you.

Are you updating your entire kitchen, with your new sink being part of the refurbishment? Or are you just looking for a replacement for what you have currently? Either way, you need to think about the size and shape of your new sink, whether you want it with a drainer, as well as the type of material that your worktop is made from – as not all sinks work with all worktops.

For those who are starting from scratch, size and position are completely up to you (dependent on the plumbing) and so think about what you’ve had previously and what you’d like to change about it. Was it big enough? Would you like more than one bowl? And of course, think about the overall style you’re going for – a modern look kitchen may suit a toughened glass, 1.5 bowl sink, while a more traditional style would suit a ceramic or Belfast sink.

If you’re replacing what you have currently, be sure to take accurate measurements of the sink and holes to ensure that your new sink will fit. But while you may be restricted by size, do explore different material options to completely refresh the look: if you had stainless steel one before, why not have a composite sink now? You’ll also find that updating your kitchen taps or adding some new sink accessories could make you feel as though you’re in a completely new kitchen.

Let us help you find the right sink for your home and add the finishing touch to your dream kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks so sleek Fitted this into our new kitchen and it looks so sleek and fabulous. It was a little tricky too fit and had told make modifications for the clips to attach to the worktops. Also the waste pipes provided by b&q were huge so bought replacement from local plumber's merchant. The sink really does look fantastic but not sure how hard wearing it will be as already have a couple of scratches on the glass even though we've been really careful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks fantastic but scratches very easy Bought this sink on looks alone but I have found it to scratch very easily so have ended up putting a tea towel on the drawing board when washing up, if you used it a lot I think it could start to look tatty.time will tell

Rated 3 out of 5 by from love the look I bought this Saturday and when we fitted it yesterday the fittings came off as we tightened the unit up. theres only silicon holding them on. the double sided tape and some improvised silicon holding it now - disappointed and it a two hour round trip for replacement. It looks great through £190

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Badly designed. The unit may look good but it is completely unfunctional. The drainage board does not drain. I have to drain my dishes prior to placing them on my drainage rack or all the water runs onto the bench. I use a plastic dish in the basin all the time yet the stainless steel is covered in scratches which began appearing immediately. Also, the glass surface is given a high scratch resistant rating by B&Q. Again, I place no items on the glass except a plastic drainage rack and it scratches quite easily. Would recommend not buying this sink.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks great but has a design flaw I purchased this sink a few months ago it really does look great but because of the design it is not practical. There is no slope for the water to run off the drainer into the sink so water goes everywhere. Within a day my new work top had water damage. I have to put a tea towel onto the drainer to soak up the water excess when washing up. I purchased the sink because of the way it looks but now it seems like there was no point as we never see it as it permenantly has a tea towel covering it. I also now have to replace all of my worktops because of the damage caused in the first few uses.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks good, but totally unsuitable I put this sink in about a month ago, with it being glass I have been very careful and put a plastic mat on the drainer. I know have noticed three deep scratches in different places, imagine what this will be like in a year. I also use a dishwasher so the sink is not used much! I will be returning to B&Q for a replacement.
