Buyer's guide to cooker hoods

Buyer's guide to cooker hoods

You probably don't give your cooker hood all that much thought, but if it wasn't there, you'd be scrubbing away at ceilings and splashbacks regularly as grease from cooking builds up fast and is tough to shift. So if you're redesigning your kitchen, replacing a hood that's seen better days or installing one for the first time, make sure you get the right kind for your kitchen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from attractive extractor... We are very happy with the performance of the extractor, it is very noisy on max, but it shifts a lot of air. Attaching the extractor to the wall was a different story, it took two experienced DIY'ers two and a half hours and a lot of stress to place it, the instructions were rather useless!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from horrible to install It works very well and noise levels are acceptable for the high performance. HOWEVER it was a complete nightmare to install, as a diy-er who has done everything from fitting a shelf to building an extension I found this challenging to say the least. You are expected to drill four holes in the wall for mounting the unit-- these have to be millimetre perfect as there is no means of adjustment--- try doing that with a concrete block wall. The instructions refer to a different type of extractor, all you get is a small diagram with the measurements so you have to mark up the hole positions by dead-reckoning---- why not supply a template and an adjustable bracket like you get for the trunking? You seem to be expected to install it in one piece including trunking (but excluding glass) This is very heavy. Finally if you have a kitchen with 2.4m high walls and a 750mm splashback there is very little clearance to install the ducting. IF you are VERY experienced and fancy a challenge carry on !!! otherwise don't bother or leave it to a professional.
