How to understand building and planning regulations

How to understand building and planning regulations

What are planning and building controls? Why do they exist? Can you deal with them yourself or is it best to ask a specialist? As with any task, you can decide for yourself when you know exactly what's involved.

First of all, it's important to understand what planning and building regulations are. It's easy to think of them as restrictive, bureaucratic tools put in place purely to thwart your ambitions. However, they're essential safety mechanisms which have been designed to protect you, your neighbours and the local environment.

The regulatory bodies will give you permission to carry out your plans unless there are very good reasons not to - in which case they must explain their decision. And if you disagree, you have the right to appeal against it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dust sheets that work! Cover was needed for many large pieces of furniture including wardrobes and beds before decorating. I bought a few packets as I thought I would need to 'double up'for secure protection. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and durability of this product and the fact that one sheet offered enough protection!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good coverage and strong Used two of these to cover kitchen units when painting walls and ceiling. Seemed to be thin but did not tear or rip and were plenty big enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A dust sheet to remember! Wow! That was some dust sheet! What more can I say!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just the right qualities Did what it supposed to and perfect for job and priced according to its quality

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Simple idea I thought when painting a chest of draws I would put this product underneath to protect the floor. It ripped a lot. Not the right product for the job. Next time will invest in heavy material floor protection. Lesson learned.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from MR did its job but tore far to easy and made it unusable for a second time

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Diall plastic dust cheap Cheap I know, but far too thin to be called a dust sheet. It is just a very thin plastic sheet. Would rather have paid more for a more substantial product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Better off using bin liners These polythene dust sheets are wafer thin. Totally useless if you want to cover small areas of carpet aswell as furniture etc. The sheet sticks to your skin!
