Buying guides

Buyer's guide to kitchen sinks

Buyer's guide to kitchen sinks

Choosing the right kitchen sink is about more than just design. Important for washing hands, rinsing vegetables, cleaning up afterwards and so much more, it’s something you’ll use every day. With that in mind, you need to make sure that you’ve chosen the right type of material, style and have added the perfect accessories to make it work for you.

Are you updating your entire kitchen, with your new sink being part of the refurbishment? Or are you just looking for a replacement for what you have currently? Either way, you need to think about the size and shape of your new sink, whether you want it with a drainer, as well as the type of material that your worktop is made from – as not all sinks work with all worktops.

For those who are starting from scratch, size and position are completely up to you (dependent on the plumbing) and so think about what you’ve had previously and what you’d like to change about it. Was it big enough? Would you like more than one bowl? And of course, think about the overall style you’re going for – a modern look kitchen may suit a toughened glass, 1.5 bowl sink, while a more traditional style would suit a ceramic or Belfast sink.

If you’re replacing what you have currently, be sure to take accurate measurements of the sink and holes to ensure that your new sink will fit. But while you may be restricted by size, do explore different material options to completely refresh the look: if you had stainless steel one before, why not have a composite sink now? You’ll also find that updating your kitchen taps or adding some new sink accessories could make you feel as though you’re in a completely new kitchen.

Let us help you find the right sink for your home and add the finishing touch to your dream kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good sized sink I bought this when I was having my kitchen replaced. I like it as the sink is big enough to fit baking trays into, and is nice and deep. The plug is entirely watertight too (unlike in my previous sink).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice looking sink I purchased this approx. 7 weeks ago, thought it would look good in our new kitchen. I was right it looks great, 1 and 1/2 bowls, the main bowl is deep not like the majority of sinks we looked at, this was the main reason we purchased the sink. good quality and large, it cleans well, but you do have to go over it a few times to remove the water marks. We purchased this knowing it was in the clearance sale, the downside was the packaging of the sink, yes the sink had protective cardboard around the sink. But the box it was delivered in was so flimsy, no protection, the flaps were just folded inside each other no tape, nothing. When or fitter fitted the sink one holding clip was missing, he had to put sealant under this edge and clamp it down for 24hours to the worktop, it seems to be holding. But we are very pleased with the sink.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice sink but very deep I purchased this for our new kitchen. It is a good quality sink but very deep which meant we could not have a shelf in the cupboard below.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK, but now scratched I bought this sink 2 years ago when I had my kitchen re-done. This is a lovely sink, but beware that it does scratch easily and after 2 years of not particularly hard use it does look blemished, particularly on the draining area and the main sink.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shocking second hand Bought this online for fitting in new kitchen when the plumber removed it from the packaging it was clearly second hand, dents, scratches, missing parts and ripped box which had the old customers delivery details on.
