Buying guides

Buyer's guide to kitchen sinks

Buyer's guide to kitchen sinks

Choosing the right kitchen sink is about more than just design. Important for washing hands, rinsing vegetables, cleaning up afterwards and so much more, it’s something you’ll use every day. With that in mind, you need to make sure that you’ve chosen the right type of material, style and have added the perfect accessories to make it work for you.

Are you updating your entire kitchen, with your new sink being part of the refurbishment? Or are you just looking for a replacement for what you have currently? Either way, you need to think about the size and shape of your new sink, whether you want it with a drainer, as well as the type of material that your worktop is made from – as not all sinks work with all worktops.

For those who are starting from scratch, size and position are completely up to you (dependent on the plumbing) and so think about what you’ve had previously and what you’d like to change about it. Was it big enough? Would you like more than one bowl? And of course, think about the overall style you’re going for – a modern look kitchen may suit a toughened glass, 1.5 bowl sink, while a more traditional style would suit a ceramic or Belfast sink.

If you’re replacing what you have currently, be sure to take accurate measurements of the sink and holes to ensure that your new sink will fit. But while you may be restricted by size, do explore different material options to completely refresh the look: if you had stainless steel one before, why not have a composite sink now? You’ll also find that updating your kitchen taps or adding some new sink accessories could make you feel as though you’re in a completely new kitchen.

Let us help you find the right sink for your home and add the finishing touch to your dream kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sink Great look, panicked at first after reading reviews, should have known better as this is a fantastic sink for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice sink good sink. looks stunning in the kitchen. water marks do occur on it but it would appear that it is a result of either dirty water or lime in the water being left on it. we have noticed that if you use kitchen cleaner with lime scale remover it cleans the surface easily back to new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful sink I was really worried after reading the one review that was written but I have to say this is beautiful. I have had no problems with water marks at all, I make sure I rinse it off and then dry it with a microfibre cloth. If I do get it dirty all I use is Barkeepers Friend and rinse it off and then it looks as good as new. My only grumble is that it does not come with a drainer for the middle part of the sink as I worry about scratching it when putting all the cutlery in to drain, having said that, it hasn't scratched it yet. Brilliant purchase, very happy with it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great sink We bought this sink after 2 failed attempts buying a grey sink online. I was worried based on other reviews. I am so pleased the other sinks were broken as this was definitely a great buy. Due to material it is more a dark grey / black and has a bit if a sparkle in it so looks great in my new kitchen. Really deep bowls which is great for washing n works well aith the franke pro spray tap. I havent experienced thr issue with water marks as others have noted. The drainer could be better in that water doesnt really run back to bowl that well but nothing a little wipe doen doesnt solve. I would recommend this sink eso if looking for a dark grey rather than black black sink.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Franke Sirius SID651 Black 1.5 Bowl Sink This was not my first choice , I wanted the Cooke & Lewis Vascite Black 1.5 Bowl Sink which was fantastic quality but when delivered it was too small so I had to buy the Franke. It does leave water marks so you need to wipe down after every use but it is a nice looking sink. A shame mine has a small chip in it which wasn't noticable untill after installation. Please check carefully all over with these sinks

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great sink, shame about the waste pipes The sink was delivered quickly, was not damaged, and looks great once installed. We dry it so the water marks are not really too noticable, and its a great looking sink once installed. The problems i had were during the installation. No rubber/foam seal was supplied so we are restricted to only using the clips and sealant. The waste had 1 diagram supplied and nothing else. The bowl sits over a 600mm unit with the back still intact, so using the waste as per the diagram left hardly any room at the back of the cupboard. I think B&Q should point out the alternative waste systems that fit this sink as i didnt have all the necessary spares to hand to adjust for existing waste pipework. Major flaw is that the extra inlet designed for a 3rd waste drainage is too small for the washing machine hose so i need to modify the pipework again to cut in a larger gauge inlet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Drainer Fitted the sink 6 weeks ago. Very easy to do. Obviously designed for looking at and not practical use, the drainer is flat with four grooves sloping down into the 1/2 sink. These grooves are totally inadequate for removing standing water from the flat drainer surface (which I thought was its purpose) consequently water overflows onto the worktop. It is useless, I would not recommend it to anyone

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality for money Sink was scratched and chiped when we un-boxed it, for the price we expected more, we ended up getting a better quality sink cheaper offline.
