How to understand building & planning regulations

How to understand building & planning regulations

What are planning and building controls? Why do they exist? Can you deal with them yourself or is it best to ask a specialist? As with any task, you can decide for yourself when you know exactly what's involved.

First of all, it's important to understand what planning and building regulations are. It's easy to think of them as restrictive, bureaucratic tools put in place purely to thwart your ambitions. However, they're essential safety mechanisms which have been designed to protect you, your neighbours and the local environment.

The regulatory bodies will give you permission to carry out your plans unless there are very good reasons not to - in which case they must explain their decision. And if you disagree, you have the right to appeal against it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hacksaw Not as good as I hoped. Took a very long time to cut through small door spindle though I did get there in the end.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from replacing blade just purchased this but havent used it yet, but not impressed by how the blade is held in. one end of blade goes into handle and then its held in place by tightening a screw over the top of the blade.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad design As others have said, the blade is not held securely in place.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very bad design The blade is insecurely held in place and bends if any pressure is applied when cutting. Use a simple junior hacksaw instead where the blade is held at both ends. The only positive is that the handle is good to grip. Buy something else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Completely useless Do not buy this product. It's poor design is beyond belief. It's like a practical joke. A complete waste o money.
Date published: 2017-02-10
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money/Time I bought this product this morning and after wasting my time putting it together to find that the blade is kept in place with a pressure screw and has an additional three inches that overhang the end I am taking it back this afternoon. The guy that designed must have been one great salesperson however the B & Q buyer needs to ask himself why they stock the product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy Terrible blade won't stay locked in place, and blade fixing catches as you are sawing.
