How to understand building and planning regulations

How to understand building and planning regulations

What are planning and building controls? Why do they exist? Can you deal with them yourself or is it best to ask a specialist? As with any task, you can decide for yourself when you know exactly what's involved.

First of all, it's important to understand what planning and building regulations are. It's easy to think of them as restrictive, bureaucratic tools put in place purely to thwart your ambitions. However, they're essential safety mechanisms which have been designed to protect you, your neighbours and the local environment.

The regulatory bodies will give you permission to carry out your plans unless there are very good reasons not to - in which case they must explain their decision. And if you disagree, you have the right to appeal against it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Circlip Pliers Great value for a 'must have' tool. takes the strain out of dealing with circlips with wrong tool e.g. pliers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely wonderful - but only for looking at !! When I purchased it, it seemed such terrific value for money for a tool so versatile. Of course, I had totally forgotten the old adage that should have told me that I only get the quality that I pay for. Remember folks (as I should have done), if you pay cheap, you get cheap. In my case, it took about 15 minutes from removing it from its packaging, to being consigned to the recycling bin utterly broken. Please, don`t, don`t, waste your money. Spend a few pounds more and buy a quality product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Read the other reviews Don't normally review things online but these are terible. I bought these today without shopping around or reading the reviews and the centre pivot broke on first use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total Rubbish I bought a pair of these to replace door handle springs. ( springs being held in place by circlip )Not a heavy job. The center rivet fell to pieces within the first thirty minutes. Design is poor and quality even worse. Fortunately managed to re assemble with some BA size WWII aircraft nuts and bolts.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke after single use Used the Circlip clipper to repair SK1850 mixer. The clipper broke from the middle holding clip. Useless!!!
