How to use a pressure washer

How to use a pressure washer

A pressure washer can take the hard work out of a whole host of cleaning tasks by simply blasting out a jet of water to knock the dirt off any surface. Pressure washers use significantly less water than most garden hoses and can actually make cleaning pretty fun. There are all kinds of tasks that could be simplified by using a pressure washer but some of the most common things they can help with are below:

Lawnmowers buying guide

Lawnmowers buying guide

A lawnmower is essential to help keep your lawn looking good all year round. But with so many options to choose from and so much technical talk, finding the right one can be challenging.

That's why we're here to help. We'll take you through the different types of lawnmower available, the power sources on offer and all the features to look out for to make mowing your lawn as easy and simple as possible. So whether you have a small patch of grass or a whole field to take care of, we've got the right lawnmower for you.

"Mac Allister 1600W Rotary Lawnmower"

Before you begin

A few questions about how you’ll be using your mower can help narrow down your shopping options to find the perfect one.

How large is the lawn?

While smaller spaces are better suited to compact, lightweight mowers, larger gardens need a more durable and robust lawnmower. Greater power is needed to get around these broader lawns quickly and easily. Similarly, there are a number of innovative features that will help make even the toughest mowing job simple so look out for these.

Where will the lawnmower be stored?

Before deciding on the size of your lawnmower, think about both access and storage. Do you need to pass through gates in order to mow your back and front gardens? If so, be sure to measure these in advance of buying to avoid snapping up a model too big to fit through the doors. The same is true of where you'll be storing your lawnmower – make sure you can get it into your shed or garage, as well as having enough space to keep it out of the way.

How close is the lawn to a power source?

A power source close to your lawn gives you more options when it comes to your choice of lawnmower. However, don’t fret if your garden is very large or your lawn away from the power source – we have a wide range of mowers to suit every situation and size of garden.

Let's go through your options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant idea and cost effective I bought this when it was on offer. Easy to assemble if you think it through. No tools required to change chain. Be very careful with it because the cutting surface is on the outside of the chain which makes it very vulnerable but compare that to hours of filing with a tiny file or paying a tenner to get it done . Make sure its full of oil and watch out for the low oil warning light. Do not press in hard and it will cut for hours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from McAllister Electric Chainsaw Brilliant This is the best chainsaw I have used, worth every penny, love the sharpening system, easy to use and cuts the wood like butter with a little bit of effort. I am delighted as it cut down on time and finished the job on time. Happy Customer Five big stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it says it does. Just bought one in the sale and put it through four hours of work, cutting softwood to old oak beams. Coped with it all very well but it did need sharpening after a fair bit of oak. Sharpening thingy worked well. To be honest, I was expecting something a bit flakey, but it's well put together and feels solid.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Performance Having always used petrol chainsaw's I'd thought this would be an interesting purchase, I was pleasantly surprised at its speed and ease of cutting. I especially like the power sharpener system! I would recommend this product however, a word of caution, the chains and bars for this product are not widely supported by B&Q if you wish to maintain the power sharp system.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from failed after two years very little use Bought it two years ago in BandQ Cork. Used it 4 or five time to cut mainly light stuff. Not much work at all. Good when it was running even if it was a pain to get the chain oil into the filler. The air wants to bubble out as oil goes in. Bought two new chains yesterday in B&Q Cork. Started it up today and the motor overheated within five minutes. Pretty well Caput I think-- that nasty burning smell and lots of arcing round the commutator and the brushes seem to have chipped or disintegrated or burned away. Anyone want two brand new chains for a mcAllister mcswp2000S?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Carbon brushes wore out. Less than 2hrs work. Have used this saw for a little work on a few railway sleepers and a few other little bits. Started to chop up 4 wooden pallets today and the 1 carbon brush shattered and the other is nearly worn down. Really? I don't think I have had 2hrs work out of it yet. Otherwise the saw seemed pretty good....Sigh

Rated 1 out of 5 by from waste of money Purchased this to cut logs up to 6/10 inch OD in the garden. Lasted approx one season before main nylon drive cog wore flat (Why they chose nylon and not metal is beyond me). Now now need to find a replacement, but reading other comments I do not feel hopeful.
