To get the best finish, it's worth doing some thorough preparation before beginning and then working systematically around the room. With the right tools even the more difficult tasks, like painting the ceiling, can be made easier and more efficient.

In this guide, we'll be;

  • Painting the ceiling, coving and walls in a room
  • Using a water-based interior emulsion paint - for advice choosing the best paint for your room, check out our Interior paint buying guide

If you're painting on bare wood, plaster or metal surfaces, you'll get a better result if you use a primer first. It provides a surface which the paint can bond to and stops the paint being absorbed. Find out more what you need and for what surface.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value Was Better Made Than I Expected. Half the price of nastier looking alternatives seen in the other big DIY chain. Used to cut 6mm tiles for a medium sized bathroom splash back and it did really well. Not the easiest to see exactly where the wheel is relative to the marked line on the tile but probably this is what these are like and certainly with a bit of care and lightly touching the tile first I was able to cut most of my tiles right first time. For what this cost I was really pleased with the build quality and how it worked.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from no problems cutting 9mm porcelain tiles Bought his for £10 to complete a porcelain tile floor and am very happy with it for the straight cuts. The tiles do require extra support when cutting to keep them straight but that is going to be the case for most of these cheap cutters. You can't go wrong at this price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great price Bought this as I was about to tile my kitchen 20sq metres. They were 300x300 porcelain tiles. The cutter done an excellent job on my tiles cutting with ease and breaking where marked. I was apprehensive when I bought it as the price was cheaper than others but my worries disappeared when I started using it. Since doing my floor I have also done a friends kitchen worktop tiles and are happy with the performance of this cutter.
