How to use a pressure washer

How to use a pressure washer

A pressure washer can take the hard work out of a whole host of cleaning tasks by simply blasting out a jet of water to knock the dirt off any surface. Pressure washers use significantly less water than most garden hoses and can actually make cleaning pretty fun. There are all kinds of tasks that could be simplified by using a pressure washer but some of the most common things they can help with are below:

"Mac Allister 1600W Rotary Lawnmower"

Before you begin

A few questions about how you’ll be using your mower can help narrow down your shopping options to find the perfect one.

How large is the lawn?

While smaller spaces are better suited to compact, lightweight mowers, larger gardens need a more durable and robust lawnmower. Greater power is needed to get around these broader lawns quickly and easily. Similarly, there are a number of innovative features that will help make even the toughest mowing job simple so look out for these.

Where will the lawnmower be stored?

Before deciding on the size of your lawnmower, think about both access and storage. Do you need to pass through gates in order to mow your back and front gardens? If so, be sure to measure these in advance of buying to avoid snapping up a model too big to fit through the doors. The same is true of where you'll be storing your lawnmower – make sure you can get it into your shed or garage, as well as having enough space to keep it out of the way.

How close is the lawn to a power source?

A power source close to your lawn gives you more options when it comes to your choice of lawnmower. However, don’t fret if your garden is very large or your lawn away from the power source – we have a wide range of mowers to suit every situation and size of garden.

Let's go through your options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than I wanted I have used this once and it is fantastic. A solid bit of kit. Very wide and so I have less up and down lengths to do. The lead is more than adequate for my small garden (with the use of an extension lead). As with all the other scarifiers the box can never be big enough...it fills within a matter of seconds......one just deals with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I've never used an electric rake/scarifier before this one so I can't compare it to others available. I went for this one because it wasn't too much more then the cheapest option but seemed to be much better. As some other reviewers say the collector bag does fill up after only a couple of lines of my lawn so it would be handy if the bag was bigger. You just need to be careful to stop as soon as you feel it not pulling anymore to empty the collector. It also takes a bit of practice to make sure it doesn't start digging a hole in the lawn (it seems to want to do this after you stop and start again so it's best lowering it down when you start) but it makes light work of the otherwise quite tiring task.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple but effective It's fair to say my lawn is green but this is mostly down to moss, as a result the ground is often damp /soggy even in summer. Strait out of the box this is easy to setup and easy to use. Using the scarifier attachment it has stripped out so much moss that even I'm surprised how little grass existed! - the only possible negative (and bear in mind this may be due to the amount of moss on my lawn) is how quickly the collection basket fills however, not a big issue as once most of the moss is gone it fills at a steady rate. Compared with an old scarifier this has plenty of power to do the job. No issues recommending.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny My fairly large lawn was more moss than grass in many places, and something fairly dramatic had to be done, so I invested in this lawn raker. I haven't used the scarifier yet, but the raker is astoundingly effective. In common with other reviewers I would agree that the collection box is useless unless your lawn is the size of a postage stamp, as it fills up in about 5 yards. That will go for everyone - if you don't have moss in your lawn you won't be using this anyway. Using it without the collector causes the machine to clog up in no time as the rear flap is sufficiently sprung to block the outflow, leading to unapproved foot-based methods of clearing it out. Wedging it open leads to a blast of rubbish flying out everywhere and a need to walk beside the machine. Another unapproved modification would probably be a metal ring screwed into the flat, and a wire attached to the handle of a length to leave the flap open horizontally, but wear shoes and thick trousers, or perhaps wellies on top. Also watch out for the power cord, which I snarled up in the raker (OK, my fault). So much moss and thatch is raked out that without the collector the cord is rapidly covered up, and risks being sucked in. Be warned, replacing the power lead is designed to be difficult, as there are two different types of non-standard screw in the box where the power lead goes into the control. I also damaged the raker cassette, but the manufacturer replaced it free of charge. When using it youi have to overlap quite a lot, as the edge of the raker tine cassette is well inside the machine, and you can easily leave strips of unraked lawn. Going over it twice in quick succession is not really recommended as it starts to shred the lawn a bit much. But having done it, and then spread a mosskiller/fertiliser, the lawn while still a bit tatty, looks hugely improved. Bottom line - in spite of minor design faults this is an amazing piece of kit and well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mac Allister MSRP1800 One word: Fantastic. I should have bought this 10+ years ago instead of struggling with a rake. Took just 5 minutes to assemble. Lightweight and very easy to move around. Very powerful. Comes with 2 interchangeable heads....scarafier & rake. I have a large garden with loads of moss and this coped very well and with ease and did a fantastic job. Started with the scarafier then switched heads which took 60 seconds to swop over to the rake. The rake took out even more moss. I couldn't believe how much came out. When finished I used a mixture of fertiliser & grass seed to replace the moss....Now I'm waiting to see the results. Finally: this is a fantastic product which does a great job for the price and would recommend you buy it. There is no need to spend £200/£300 when this will do just as good.
