Features and Benefits

Tongue and groove cladding can be fixed in either a vertical or horizontal position. When installing vertically start the project in one corner of the room with the groove side of the board facing the adjoining wall. Cladding can be adhered to a smooth surface or stud work or fixed to timber battens. Cladding can be face fixed or secret fixed by nailing through the base of the tongue at an angle into the stud, wall or batten. When fitting the last board this may need to be trimmed to fit by removing a section from the tongue side of the cladding. If a tight fit the under section of the groove of the cladding can be cut away so the board fits neatly on the tongue of the previous board. This must be glued or face fixed. When fitting cladding in a horizontal position begin with the lowest cladding board at the bottom of the project with the groove nearest the ground, this can also be fixed onto the surface by nailing at an angle through the base of the tongue. Work upwards and complete the project with the last board being cut to fit if necessary.

Buyer's guide to timber and board

Buyer's guide to timber and board

Broadly speaking, timber comes in three different types: construction timber, finishing timber and decorative timber. It's generally more expensive than man-made boards, which come in lots of varieties with a whole range of uses.

Always try to choose timber that's been certified by an independent organisation like the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as this means the wood has been sourced sustainably. If there is any wood or paper in a B&Q product, we make sure it meets legal, social and environmental standards. Find out more about our Forest Friendly Promise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks good when construction is complete Some pieces are a little misshapen but in the main it's a good solid product and better value and coverage than most comparable materials I looked at.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from B&Q's tongue and groove Some pieces were warped but still usable once fixed, on the whole they're well priced but not enough packs are kept in store

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Metsawood - Softwood Treated Tongue & Groove great value timber in a handy pack of 5 ,very delicate to cut please be careful over all very happy with my purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Coverage mistake in spec Not an expert at "sums" but watch out if you are expecting this to cover 1.785m2!. It's 3 metres long, and 119mm wide (and there's one plank in the pack) - so I think you'd have to hammer it flat to get it to cover one and a half square metres. So, something's gone wrong in the description. Maybe there's five lengths in the pack. Just be aware, buyer, and careful Mr B and Q. (Or maybe I've misread something, for which I am truly sorry.)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Watch out. Check carefully, damaged in store. Warning, alot of the stock in store is damaged or warped. If you are lucky enough to fine sound ones, they fit well and look ok when made up. I bought 100 boards and had to return over half because of damage or poor condition. Wasted time, energy and petrol going back to store. Staff at the customer service desk of the Stevenage store gave bad service, no apology or smile, grumpy and basic process of return. Not what I expected from B and Q.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cladding was warped and groove damaged.Buyerbeware I bought a large quantity of these and most of them were damaged. Warped and the edged broken and damaged. Had to return alot. The person at the customer service desk in Stevenage was awful. She acted, looked and spoke, like she couldn't be bothered and it was too much trouble. I waited 40 mins for poor service and for them to replace the damaged cladding! Totally unacceptable!
