"Mac Allister 1600W Rotary Lawnmower"

Before you begin

A few questions about how you’ll be using your mower can help narrow down your shopping options to find the perfect one.

How large is the lawn?

While smaller spaces are better suited to compact, lightweight mowers, larger gardens need a more durable and robust lawnmower. Greater power is needed to get around these broader lawns quickly and easily. Similarly, there are a number of innovative features that will help make even the toughest mowing job simple so look out for these.

Where will the lawnmower be stored?

Before deciding on the size of your lawnmower, think about both access and storage. Do you need to pass through gates in order to mow your back and front gardens? If so, be sure to measure these in advance of buying to avoid snapping up a model too big to fit through the doors. The same is true of where you'll be storing your lawnmower – make sure you can get it into your shed or garage, as well as having enough space to keep it out of the way.

How close is the lawn to a power source?

A power source close to your lawn gives you more options when it comes to your choice of lawnmower. However, don’t fret if your garden is very large or your lawn away from the power source – we have a wide range of mowers to suit every situation and size of garden.

Let's go through your options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as the top brands I have been buying this for over a year now. Have bought roughly 50 bags so far. Have a 3rd of an acre garden. Need to address the remarks re the wood shavings. I think Verve must have taken in these comments and changed the make up of this product as all I have been is composted straw. I use it to condition my soil, roughly 50/50 and to ply as a mulch. Everything growing beautifully. Is as good as anything else on the market but cheaper when bought at the 3for10 pounds. It is course textured and this is ideal for clay soil, which I have where I live. Once the worms have taken it dos into the sole and once it has mixed in I am left with a lovely friable loam. Would definitely recommend

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly how it should be Perfect, moist and no smell, no signs of any sawdust. Would definitely buy again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thriving roses We purchased several bags of the horse manure as we were setting up a new rose bed. Unless horse muck is collected straight from the field bedding material is usually collected too. In the verve bag there was bedding material but nothing unexpected and it was rotted down. The proof of the pudding has been a second show of superb blooms and good healthy leaf growth. Certainly no sign of 'nitogen burn'. Picking up from store in bags easier and more convenient than collecting from round the field and waiting for it to rot down ...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disagree Have read all the comments on this product so went along to B&Q this morning to take a look, feel, touch, smell the stuff before buying. I recently bought a pallet of HM from a company that processes the stuff. It comes from racehorse stables where wood shavings are used for bedding rather than straw. That too had the same amount of wood shavings in it as the Verve product so I do not know what people expect for the price. There is no smell with the Verve product and the texture is the same as what I bought. For small quantities I would say Verve is fine for the price. If you want large quantities then buy from the processor. There is little if any difference in quality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish product - mainly wood shavings I bought 3 bags of this and took two back as the one I opened was mainly wood shavings. I take wood out of my soil- I certainly don't want to put it back in!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Verve Horse Manure 50 L Agree with previous reveiwers. This stuff is rubbish. Dont buy under any circumstances. Even if they are giving it away it is useless. Who wants to dig shavings and wood wedges into their soil. Totally useless rubbish.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not properly composted I have to agree with the previous reviewer that this is full of uncomposted wood shavings. If dug into the soil it may actually deplete nitrogen, so only suitable as a mulch, not good quality and not fit for purpose as a soil conditioner.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inferior quality & full of wooden shavings ! I’ve used Levington horse manure in the past which was an excellent quality. As my local garden centre discontinued the above mentioned horse manure; so I’ve bought verve horse manure which is full of fresh wooden shavings. I am entirely unsatisfied with this product as these shaving will take years to decompose.
