How to install a water butt

Rainwater is a free resource you can use to help keep your garden green. Also, unlike hard mains water, rainwater won't leave limescale deposits or increase the alkalinity of the soil.

The best way to collect it is in a water butt connected to a downpipe. If you put it on a stand, you'll be able to fill a watering can straight from its tap. If you have a big garden, you can connect two butts to a single downpipe by using a flexible hose link kit. Water butts can be used for more than just watering plants. A water butt pump will enable you to use rainwater for cleaning.
