How to choose the right shower - when choosing a shower there are two things to consider:

There are 4 types of showers*. Which one is right for you?

showertypes - electric

Electric shower

Has an integrated water heater, and heats water as you use it. As the water feed is from your mains cold water supply, it works independently from your hot water system, and is therefore suitable for use in any home, regardless of which hot water system you have.

showertypes - mixer

Mixer shower

Uses the hot water heated by your boiler or immersion heater and blends it with cold water to deliver a shower at your selected temperature. Mixer showers are ideal for Gravity Fed systems, Combi Boilers and High Pressure unvented systems.

showertypes - power

Power shower

Has an integrated pump within the unit, which will deliver a powerful flow rate. Power showers are suitable for use with Gravity Fed systems, and are ideal if you have low water pressure.

showertypes - digital

Digital shower

Work on the same principal as mixer showers, but a digital processor allows water flow and temperature to be controlled at the touch of a button. Use a pumped version for Gravity Fed systems, and an un-pumped version for Combi Boilers or High Pressure unvented systems.

What type of hot water system do you have?

There are 3 common hot water systems in the UK - Gravity Fed, Combi Boiler, or High Pressure unvented systems. Use our guide below to identify which type of system you have, and which type of shower is right for you.*

Helpful hint

Got low water pressure? Add one of our shower pumps to a mixer shower to increase the water flow. (Shower pumps cannot be added to a Combi Boiler)

Helpful hint

Electric showers will always have a kW rating. The higher the kW rating, the better the hot water flow rate will be. Always follow manufacturers guidelines as to which type of cabling you will need for the shower you choose.

* If you are in any doubt over which system you have, or what type of shower is most suitable for your system, please contact your plumber.

** The majority of our Mixer showers are designed for use with any system, however some Mixer showers are designed specifically for Low or High Pressure systems. Please see individual product details.
