In the kitchen

Kitchens are another part of the house where we can save water, especially by choosing appliances that use less water. A-rated appliances use a lot less energy – and a lot less water, too. So, when you're buying a new dishwasher or washing machine, make sure you check the rating. Waterwise have produced information on the water efficiency of all dishwasher and washing machines on the UK market, visit www.waterwise.org.uk for details.

Some more ways to save water in the kitchen:

  • Try not to run your washing machine or dishwasher until it's full
  • Read the manual of your washing machine and dishwasher as there may be water saving options that you can select
  • Try washing vegetables in a washing up bowl, rather than under a tap
  • Fill the kettle with only as water much as you need. This saves you energy as well as water
