What we've achieved so far
- We have cut absolute carbon emissions by 29% compared to 2006 baseline.
- We only buy timber that can be demonstrated to be responsibly sourced.
- Since 2006, we have cut CO2 emissions from waste to landfill by 80% compared to 2006 baseline.
- We won the Observer Ethical Business Award 2010.
- We have been recognised as one of the UK's 20 Best Green Companies in 2011 by the Sunday Times.
- 11,700 of our colleagues have completed a One Planet e-learning module.
What are we doing?
In 2007, B&Q committed to become a One Planet business and to help our customers achieve One Planet homes.
- B&Q's carbon commitmentWe are committed to a 20% reduction in CO2 by the end of the 2012 financial year and are targeting a 90% reduction in CO2 by the end of the 2023 financial year. We've made a great start by reducing our absolute carbon emissions by 16% since 2006.
- B&Q's waste commitmentWe are committed to a 90% reduction (by weight) of waste to landfill by the end of the 2012 financial year.
- B&Q's water commitmentWe are committed to a 10% reduction in volume of water used (m3) by the end of the 2012 financial year against a 2007/8 baseline.
- B&Q's timber commitmentWe now only buy timber that has been responsibly sourced. Find out more about our Forest Friendly programme.
