why do we care?

Our people are our unique asset and we know that trained and knowledgeable store teams are critical to providing a friendly expert service to our customers. In addition to on and off the job training we offer a programme of City & Guilds retail qualifications.

Most company apprenticeship schemes are only open to those under 25, under our scheme there are no age limitations.

Our employees take pride in achieving these nationally recognised qualifications and our customers can have confidence in the advice and service they are receiving from us.

our commitments
  • In early 2009 we launched three City & Guilds nationally recognised qualifications:
    • The NVQ Retail Skills Level 2
    • The Home Improvement Knowledge qualification
    • The Retail Apprenticeship Programme
  • All our qualifications are mapped to in-house learning and performance solutions so learning and achievement takes place 'on the job'
  • During 2010 we will be adding new qualifications to our offer
what we've achieved so far...
  • An investment of £1 million in improving the skills of our store teams through three skills qualifications pathways
  • By the end of January 2010 more than 10,000 staff will have gained a qualification
  • Our eldest employee on an apprenticeship scheme is 70
