Decent Door but nightmare purchase!
Bubblebrown - 7 months ago
Purchased the door in Canterbury branch, and as i couldn't see a handle inside i spoke to a B and Q Employee who told me i had to get them seperately (This is not true). So i grabbed one without looking properly. This was the wrong handle. I returned this the next day to my local branch in Whitstable and asked them to point me in the right direction for a new one but they couldnt help. So i had to travel to Canterbury again to check the original door (Mine was fitted and packaging dumped). Then found out it should have come with a handle but mine had been nicked, so managed to find one in the packaging of the 4 doors like mine they had. I'm taking this as a sign that the handles don't last long. I had to fit the doorwhile shut as i couldn't lift it off due to lintel. Although the frame was square the door needed a lot of adjusting, had to raise the door about 10mm on the hinges. As a previous review has said, the smallest plastic cap on the left/right adjustment was poorly constructed, and no matter how careful you are it disentegrated. One was so bad i had to drill it out. Obviously there was some damage caused to the hinge from trying various different tools to remove it. Once they were all out i managed to fit the door ok. Its a decent door of good weight but the time wasted on the caps and B&Q's poor stock, plus the damaged caused to the door, negated the good price. Should have gone elsewhere.
This door is very poor quality

I have just install this fully glass door upvc LH door to my back door.
The door is catching the frame at the top and middle.
It is difficult and awkward to close and open it.
I adjust the door hings to make it fit.
It is working ok for a while and after that the problem is coming back again.
I bought this door from brandy new and I expect it is good.
Please advise me can I take it back and refund the money.
Good value

This door was about half the price of most other UPVC doors.
This is an inward opening door but we wanted outward opening, so we just turned it around on installation, making sure the hinges were on the correct side when we purchased it.
My only concern so far is that the door has un-centred it's self twice in a week which makes locking difficult or impossible. This is easily fixed by adjusting the hinges with an allen key, but only if you know what you are doing, which I don't.
We needed something on next day delivery and more importantly within budget, so this ticked all the boxes. In future I would plan and save up to purchase something more robust, but all things considered I shouldn't complain.
Difficult to adjust and now lock doesn't work

Door looks good and far better than the old wooden door it replaced,.but that's where the positives end.
Fitting wise, it weighs a ton, but it's manageable. I actually fitted both frame with door attached as there wasn't sufficient clearance to hang the door after frame was fitted. However, for the purpose of ensuring my opening was correct I initially detached the door from the frame, enabling me to.easily check it fitted ok.
When fitted the door caught on the frame on the upper part of the handle side. According to the instructions there are three adjustment points. Allen keys are supplied for all three. The adjustment point I needed was hidden by a little plastic cover which I struggled to remove. Finally I was able to get the plastic plug/cover off and adjust the door so.it closed and didn't catch. CAN SOMEONE AT B&Q PLEASE TELL THE MANUFACTURED NOT TO FIT THE PLASTIC PLUG AS ITS A PIG TO REMOVE! (Please see pic)
Now the door shuts perfectly, the key doesn't turn properly and I can't lock the door! I'm sure there's a fix as it worked fine before the door was adjusted, but what a pain!
