Disappointed 99 - 1 year ago

I bought this to deal with the branches of a small conifer. None of the branches were more than 25mm across, but the shredder failed within an hour. With the next cheapest alternative being three times the price, I suppose I shouldn't have expected much, but with a 12 month guarantee I didn't expect it to fail straight away.
It's poorly designed. The bottom of the chute is too narrow and has what amounts to a plastic grid (to stop you putting your hand up it?) and it gets blocked with greenery almost constantly. Once it is blocked, the airflow that keeps the motor reasonably cool is stopped, it quickly overheats and cuts out.
Once I had unblocked it (for about the 20th time) and reset it, I switched it back only to hear the most appalling 'clatter' as something inside the mechanism was catching, metal on metal. I left it to cool down completely, and carefully rotated the cutting blade by hand, but it was still catching, so I gave up and returned it to the shop.
I'd pay twice as much for a better design that was up to the job.

Easy to set up and use.

I bought this on 11th July 18 to save cutting every branch down to fit in the Wheelie Bin.
I had it on the B&Q Discount day and got it for £48.60 a good price as it won't be used constantly. It was easy to assemble ready for use and when used performed exceptionally well for that price. It shredded all that was put thro' but seems to ignore small leaves of which most came out whole but sometimes built up in the discharge exit causing a blockage which had to be cleared to continue. This was however very easy to accomplish, Unplug the shredder, undo the large knob on the rear above the motor and the blockage can be pushed thro' or taken out by hand until it will push out. Takes about 10 minutes. The forward tipping chute has a metal connection on it which connects to the start switch so you must screw the knob in all the way or the shredder won't operate. A word of Warning, when pushing branches in of 1-2-3 centimetres make sure you have them at the top of the branch and clear of your hands as the cutters grab the branches and they sometimes snatch back and give you a painful whack on the hand. It took me about 3/4 of an hour to feed a large bush thro' and cleaned up in a little over an hour. Well worth the money, recommended for small gardens to clear bushes.

do not bother

Purchases this model and within 5 minutes of use it stopped working. Checked possibilities for failure as per the manual with no success. Returned and replaced, no problem. However the replacement shredder didn't even start so returned for a refund. I may have been a little unlucky but it was very disappointing having read the other favourable reviews.

Great Tool

Excellent little shredder, does exactly what is says on the tin! neat compact and powerful, small criticism, it seems to get blocked on the outlet a little bit too much, but no bother to unblock! First class!
