How to repair a sub-floor

How to repair a sub-floor

Whether you go for vinyl, carpet or even ceramic tiles, changing your floor covering is a great way to give a room a new lease of life. But before you start work, make sure the surface underneath is sound and level. If it isn't, any defects are likely to show through. This will spoil the look of your new floor and eventually cause it to wear unevenly. Luckily, there are some effective ways to deal with problem floors which we will share with you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very easy to lay on concrete or floorboards. Very pleased with product, the finish looks great and warmer than tiles.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Website dreadful - 3 products identical Awful description and pricing on website. Not always the case with B&Q but this was terrible. Bought all 3 products and returned 2 which were more expensive but visually and physically identical. Poor website andproduct management.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks good, fitting needs improvisation I am still working out how to fix it down properly. I am a home DIYer, not a pro fitter. I think I am going to have to glue the parts together, because there is a height difference on this threshold, and the lower one isn't flush. After this I have 3 more to do elsewhere, part of my life that I won't ever get back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Works - but only just... As usual the instructions make installation sound simple - it isn't. The self adhesive feature is a waste of space. Screw it down. I use 5 screws across a nornal door. Put screws within 30mm of the ends to stop them lifting, space the others evenly. To fit the clips put the base on a solid surface, hold the clips as upright as you can and tap gently with a hammer - don't bash them, you'll split the base. To fit the top cap is a real challenge as you can't see the clips... Start at one end , peering underneath to see if you can get it lined up. Then it needs quite a firm press to get it to engage on the clips Once you have managed to get them all started DON'T try to tap it down with a hammer, the top will split - even if you use a soft block. Wearing a soft shoe like a trainer gently apply weight over each clip in turn and you should hear a series of clicks as the top settles down. Don't even think of getting it off again!!! Good luck.
