- Suitable for All types of wood
- Surface Preparation - Colron Refined Wood Dye is only absorbed by clean, dry, untreated timber which is free from dirt, oil and grease. Any previously applied finish such as paint, varnish, seal polish or wax must be completely removed. Prepare the surface well. Colron Refined Wood Dye and compatible varnishes provide a transparent finish any marks, blemishes or stains in the substrate will show through. Any discoloured wood should be sanded until an original surface is visible. Sand lightly in the direction of the grain taking care not to overly sand or “polish” the surface. Oily hardwoods such as teak, resinous areas and knots should be thoroughly washed with white spirit. Remove any dust using a brush or vacuum cleaner and wipe the surface using a cloth soaked with white spirit. Allow to dry thoroughly.
- Instructions for Use - Colron Refined Wood Dye can be applied with a soft cloth or sponge. When treating large areas such as doors or floors apply the dye one length of floorboard or a section of door at a time to avoid overlaps, work quickly to maintain a wet edge. Application by cloth or sponge will result in a lighter shade. A one coat application is normally sufficient, but colour may be intensified and a more even finish achieved by the application of further coats of Colron Refined Wood Dye. Allow 1 hour between coats. Do not apply more than three coats. Seal the dye using Colron Refined Interior Lacquer. When treating floors use Ronseal Diamond Hard Clear Floor Varnish. Allow the dye to dry for 1 hour prior to application of varnish.

Superb wood dye
I used this to stain some pine bannisters and hand rail. I used two coats then used a Colron wax. This finished effect is very good indeed so I would recommend this wood dye.

Very poor, don't bother
I bought this a few weeks ago to stain an oak table I was making. I tried a test on an off cut of oak and the results were very poor. No penetration, poor color adherence. I got some spirit based Luberon brand and bingo we were back in business. I appreciate the need for water based products but in this instance don't waste your time with this product.

colron wood dye
Colron used to make excellent spirit based dyes, these new water based products have no depth of colour and the colours themselves are weird.

Complete rubbish
Have used the old solvent based stain for years with no problem. This water base dye is useless. Doesn’t colour the wood evenly or with any depth of colour. It also took a whole can to dye one bookcase, a tin of the old stain would have done several items. Doesn’t even deserve 1 star.

Not sure
Bought this stain as its the only one available in a light oak and given the medium oak is so nice, i thought this would also be of the same quality. However having used it, its not so much a light oak but more mustard. Cant say im terribly pleased with the product and will most likely just sit in the shop doing nothing.

Excellent coverage and easy to use
Having bought this product to help disguise scratches over my table I was very impressed with the results Highly recommend this product

Great product and low odour
Use a couple of coats and then finish with Briwax. Most of the wood in my house is treated in a similar manner.

Subtle colour
Easy to use and gives excellent shade, very happy!

Not fit for purpose
I have been using Colron wood dyes for 40 years and always been very happy with the results. This product (now water based rather than solvent based) is utter rubbish. It hardly provides any colour at all and lifts the grain on the wood. Don't waste your money, buy a solvent based product from a reputable manufacturer.
