I like the fact that the dye gives a lighter colour with the first coat and you can add further coats to create the depth. I loved the way it brought the colour of the grain out. I used a brush and a small piece of lint free cloth (basically used a piece of an old t-shirt) to get the job done. I poured the dye out in a small container so it is easier to dip the cloth and start the work. Mine was a slatted fence that I was looking to stain so while cloth was a good option, I could not get it in between the slats and had to start using a paint brush. I was able to complete the job fairly quickly.

    Unfit for purpose

Bought this in error thinking it was Colrons excellant spirit based dye but it was their water based rubbish. It's basically the most expensive watered down emulsion paint on the planet. It has too thick a consistancy to soak into the wood & therefore completely fails to dye the wood with anymore than a pale smudge. Utterly useless no matter how many coats you use. B&Q provide excelant customer service & are in no way responsible for the woeful performance of this product but B&Q along with all the other DIY retailers need to cancel this dreadful product. Then maybe Colron will get the message & return to the spirit based dye. Or stock Rustins or any other product that actually works!
