As a previous review mentioned - this comes recommended from a blog I read, with regards to covering gloss for re-painting with emulsion.

I painted my hallway and stairwell white. I achieved my goal of making the windowless area appear much brighter but the gloss white banister and wood panel made it look very washed out. It's very difficult to paint over gloss with emulsion without either sanding or priming with a primer that provides a textured surface.

This goes on easily with a brush (as the product itself is an emulsion) and sticks to the gloss as good and as easy as painting a wall with emulsion. Only one coat required to create a textured surface on top of the gloss layer I was covering.

In a warm house it was paintable within around an hour. My navy emulsion paint went on perfectly and I'm very happy with the finish. The hallway and stairwell is now bright but with some well needed contrasting lines.

The pot isn't great value but it's designed primarily for tricky surfaces so should only be needed sparingly. It'll easily cover the gloss surfaces in your house. If it's whole walls you need primed then a standard primer would be a better choice.

Worked a treat to repaint our veneer wardrobes !

The gloss stuck like superglue with this primer under it - it's withstood a few knocks already - two pots of paint much cheaper than new inbuilt wardrobes - result !

Not sure how it's 'super grip'

I honestly didn't find any difference between this and ordinary primer. I had one set of kitchen units which had been painted with ordinary primer and when I came to paint the matching dresser I used super grip primer. Both sets of units were of reclaimed pine, which had been waxed about fifteen years ago.I sanded the dresser down with and electric sander, used knot sealer and then applied the undercoat and two top coats of Jasmine White Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood (also a way of making you spend more as you're told it's a stronger finish), leaving more than the suggested time between coats by an extra couple of hours. A few days after painting, the dresser was knocked and the paint chipped off down to the bare wood, showing no sign of the 'super-grip' remaining. Long-term I'm not hopeful, but this is my review at this time, ten days after painting.

    Great for painting over gloss!

I read on the Internet that this was a great Base coat for painting over gloss and was so pleased with the results...it's expensive but goes a long way and provides a perfect matt base coat!
