Decorator really impressed with this paint I bought for the metal garage door
Poor quality finish

I bought this paint two days ago, despite stirring well throughout application and only applying a thin first coat, to a very well prepared metal garage door, the result after six hours is terrible. The paint went very thin quickly and needs constant stirring.
The door looked immaculate when I completed it, with no runs or sagging, the paint was touch dry at four hours and by six hours the door was covered in ripples and runs.
Would not recommend this product or use again. Very disappointing after days of prepping the door.
Hammerite has always been my product of choice but will never purchase again.
Excellent results for me

There are some mixed reviews for this product, but my experience has been very good. I think it probably depends on the nature of the surface you're painting, and the preparation. My garage doors had some paint already on, albeit extremely faded. I first gave the doors a thorough jet-washing to remove all surface debris.
The paint went on very nicely. I applied straight on to the doors in a vertical (closed) position. The paint is thick enough not to run, which is pretty impressive. There's no streaking or ripples, and the finish is very uniform and nice looking. Just apply a little at a time, using even brush strokes. It covers well, and this one 750ml tin almost did both of my garage doors. I think if I'd used it a bit more sparingly in places, it would have done both doors, but in the end I just ran out of paint, with just the edges to do.
When painting, use gloves because this stuff is a nightmare to get off your hands. Pretty much wrecks your paintbrush too.
Maybe Hammerite have changed the formula, because this paint is extremely thick, and doesn't run, contrary to other reviews.

Easy to use and will not need to have a repaint for at least 4 years
