I am hopeless at DIY (yes that too!) and didn't know my file from my orbital sander. Trouble was, I was desperate to create some plinths in hard wood to display my plastic battleships and submarines and so on. I found a wood yard that would supply cherry but the width was a bit narrow. I then decided to employ wood glue and glue thee planks side by side, then route them with my fabulous Mac All-star router and finally sand them down. I found a fabulous clamp in B&Q which was just wide enough unlike my old G clamp. As there are two pieces of wood in order to get a good finish one needs careful yet sometimes extensive sanding in order to bring about the quality finish that one needs.
After reading reviews on B&Q I decided to go for the JCB orbital sander. My local store had one , the last one, in stock but the box was open and a bit bedraggled. I saw that this one was available, had similar specs to the JCB and also was a bit cheaper. I also liked the idea of the handle at the front as I am a weedy chap who isn't very strong I thought this would give me something to cling to as it whizzed away.
All in all I am delighted. It's easy use quiet enough though I always use ear plugs, goggles and a mask and it's powerful and also adjustable so that I can rev it up, select a coarser sandpaper when there's serious sanding to be done.
I bought the wrong discs to go with it and these were all that my local store had but they took them back without question and a further frustration was that there were no free discs in the box and at first I wasn't sure what to order from the internet retailer who shipped 100 discs for not a lot of money, from China of course.
The finish is amazing and achieved quickly. The final plinth looks really good and dare I say it almost professional. Although I had a bit of a false start I am glad I chose this excellent offering from B&Q and also given my experience with the router will happily choose this brand (box permitting!) in future. Cheers.

I have had 2 of these in the past 12 months. 1st was replaced 4 months ago due to a burnt out motor. 2nd one has gone the same way. Not very well built.
