These were easy to set and I bagged two on the first night! Now reset to catch any other siblings!

Gruesome, but does the job its meant to. 3 nights I set it and 3 dead rats
Well made but doesn't work with smart rats :-(

I bought a couple of these as I had found unmistakable rat droppings on my patio. I agree with the other reviews that they are well made so I expected success.
I put them out baited with peanut butter, but unset, for a couple of days for the rats to get used to them, as recommended. Then baited and set. Next morning one trap had been triggered, the bait was gone in both, but not a single dead rat! Next day both traps triggered, bait consumed and no dead rat!
So I put a video camera up to see what was going on. ;-)
Mr Rat comes along, smells around the trap and then climbs onto the back of it to eat the bait. Even if he triggers the trap, the snap just closes over his head, completely missing him. It scares him a bit and he runs off, returning a few minutes later to finish the bait. However, if the rat approaches the bait from the back of the trap then execution fails every time. No matter which way I lay the trap, the rats here seems to know that they can climb onto the back of the trap to get the bait and survive. They never go straight for the bait from the front of the trap!
After two weeks, all I have is smarter, fatter rats, leaving bigger droppings on the patio!
Old spring traps held the snap open 180deg, so it didn't matter which direction the rat took the bait from. These only hold the snap open 90deg, so ratty can safely approach under the snap from the back of the trap.
A robustly made, poorly designed trap (if you can even call it that).
Did the job

I expected the trap to kill the rat instantly to avoid the pain, but the dead rodent was found 10 feet from the trap, which meant it suffered while trying to escape the trap and walked away until it died few feet from the trap. I imagine it may have made lots of squeaking noises in agony.

I bought this only a few hours ago after hearing noises in my roof for quite some time. I couldn’t be happier after setting one up and boom heard the trap from the other room. I left it a while and went to check and poor mite was so stiff. How ever it does not pay the rent on my property so it was not welcome here and sponging off me eating my food. I know there is more as I can still hear noises so I have set up both traps and any rat that thinks my house is a hotel can think again! Rest assured their last meal of the day is peanut butter
