Product information

Ronseal 5 Year Fence Life+ Shed & Fence Protector provides 5 years of protection for your shed and fence with just two coats. It's simple to use and stands up to all kinds of weather. The first coat protects, and the second coat seals, giving you up to 5 years of deep, rich colour with no peeling or flaking. Cornflower gives your fence or shed a clean, light blue finish. It brightens the garden without overpowering the space. Fence Life Plus+ can be used on all rough sawn and smooth planed wood whether its new, stained with a similar colour, or even damp.

  • Guarantee - Statutory
  • Suitable for Wood
  • Waterproof
  • Surface Preparation - Wait for a warm, dry day (above 10 °C and not going to rain). Cold, wet weather stops the stain from drying, which could make it wash off. Use a stiff brush to clean off any dirt and previous coatings that are peeling or flaking. Giving your wood a good clean makes sure the stain will soak in and stick properly. You could clean the wood with either a pressure washer (be careful not to damage the wood) or use a suitable fence cleaner. The stain is best applied to wood that is completely dry, however if your wood is damp to touch, then it can still be applied. Cover anything you don't want to get stain on. To check you're happy with the colour, find a small hidden patch of wood to test on before you paint your whole shed or fence.
  • Instructions for Use - To apply with a brush, give it a really good stir. Use something wide, like an old wooden spoon. Get lots of the stain on your brush and put a good thick coat on. If you see any drips, brush them in. Give any drips on plants or paving a wipe with soapy water before the paint dries. On rough sawn wood, you'll need to use 2 coats to get 5 years protection. For smooth planed wood, you'll need to use 3 coats. leave 4 hours between coats. To apply using a sprayer, you'll need to make sure it's not too windy. Give the stain a really good stir, then pour the liquid into the tank. Pump it up or turn it on and start the spraying. Use long, sweeping. horizontal arm movements and move along the full width of the panel. Drop down and do the same again, going over again where you've already sprayed about half. This will make sure the whole area is covered with just the right amount of stain. On rough sawn wood, you'll need to use 2 coats to get 5 years protection. For smooth planed wood, you'll need to use 3 coats. leave 4 hours between coats. Any overspray should be cleaned up straight away with soapy water before it dries.

Not the best

Very watery needs a lot to cover would not buy again

Rachel - 3 / 5 - 07/08/2026

Meh

Had to use 3 coats and it still needs another one. Looks gorgeous but took a whole day to cover a gate and aroud 20ftx5ft fences. Looks like it will be water resistant and last though. Very watery consistency

Snowman - 1 / 5 - 30/07/2026

Watery paint

Very watery, needs stiring all the time, not thick, needs at least 2 to 3 coats.

Lindz - 5 / 5 - 18/07/2026

Good wood paint

It went on to the wood well and had even coverage. The suggested 3 coats was perfect to get the desired finish. Goes a long way.

Mick - 5 / 5 - 16/06/2026

As Good as it says.

Painting an old fence has brought it back to looking very good - needed 2 coats.

Great for the price

I bought this product because of its durability and it's long lasting coulor.

Anita - 4 / 5 - 12/05/2026

Bought the wrong stuff!

So I guess I bought the wrong stuff. I wanted to protect and paint two beach huts. However, on opening I could see that this product was extremely watery. It sunk into the wood and covered two beach huts twice. They looked pretty hideous. I expect that if you are using the product on a garden fence or shed it would be ok. I wanted a vibrant cornflower colour for the huts but it was a dull patchy effect. I got the wrong stuff, I needed paint. It probably helped as a base coat as the paint went on the hut after and more easily.

It's not cornflower blue!

Can't fault the ease with which it goes on, or the coverage, but it's definitely not cornflower blue! I would term it battleship grey. After a couple of coats there was a bit more blue evident, but it really is walking the line between grey and a hint of blue.

Again dors not live up to the 5 year life clam

I have painted my shed with this project and although it has kept it's colour well is does not not live up to the 5 year guarantee. Having to repaint it after only 2 years

Good choice

Just what I need, nice colour, good weather restarting cover 👌
