This dark oak interior varnish from the Ronseal Interior diamond hard range can be applied to interior using a brush. The varnish dries in just 20 minutes and will cover up to 24 m² per litre on average.
- Gives great protection against knocks, scuffs and scratches
- Surface Preparation - Ensure the room is warm and ventilated. To prepare the wood for varnishing, give the surface a wipe down with a cloth and white spirit to remove wax, grease, dirt and oil. Use 120 grit sandpaper to give the surface a quick sand and smooth out any rough patches. If the wood has an old coating on it, sand away the peeling, loose and flaking bits so the surface is even. Let the dust settle and wipe it away with a damp cloth. Leave the wood to dry thoroughly before varnishing.
- Instructions for Use - Give your varnish a stir, and test the colour on a hidden patch to make sure you’re happy with it. It may darken your wood slightly but it should bring out its natural colour. If you’re happy with how it looks, apply an even layer of the varnish painting in the direction of the woodgrain. Wait one hour for the coat to dry. You will need two to three coats for complete coverage and protection. Before you apply your final coat (whether that’s the second or third), sand down the surface and wipe the dust off with a cloth. This will help your final coat stick smoothly and will give you a perfect finish.

Varnish handrail
Used this to go over a handrail varnished using a cheaper product. I did 3 coats and am really pleased with the result. Feels like much better quality than the old varnish. Only trouble is I still have 90% of the tin left.

Good Product Overall
Whilst this product was not really right for the project I was working on, it still worked really well. Easy to apply and dries quite quickly.

Disappointed
No discernible colour in this at all (yes, I mixed the tin contents thoroughly)

Doesn't do what it says on the tin
Bought this product to varnish some fresh oak and give it some nice brown colour, turned out to be green! Both in the tin and when applied - very disappointing and completely useless

Disappointing
I've used Ronseal stains and varnishes many times over the years and have always been pleased with the results. I appreciate that different woods will produce different colour finishes but this is far from dark oak. It's light oak at best. Despite following the instructions, the final finish is not very good either and is certainly not going to be very durable on our dining table.

Does exactly what it says on the tin
Have used this product for years on furniture,doors, architraves etc. Keeps well so no problems with air-tight storage - just follow the instructions for a fine, hard finish

Dries very fast
This is the second tin of this I have brough. It is very easy to put on and leaves a beautiful finish. The nice thing about it is that it colours and glosses it at the same time

Great product ...does as it says on tin.
I bought this to to my stair treads. I was going to danish oil them at first but after trying it out on one step I didn't like the colour and wasn't up to putting too much effort in doing several coats. I decided to try ronseal varnish and after applying two coats an hour after each other, i'm really pleased with the results. I am going to put another two coats on to finish them, but for now the results speak for themselves. The colour is grey but when the varnish is applied it is dark oak. It leaves a lovely light sheen which I am expecting will be more glossy after the recommended third coat goes on. Extremely fast to dry so the job is over and done with. In fact was so please with it I did my front door in it too.
