Questions to ask before you begin

Which room in the house are you painting?

What goes on in the room you are planning to paint? Maybe you are painting a kitchen or bathroom that would benefit from a moisture-resistant paint. Some rooms might need an extra hard-wearing paint which can be wiped down and cleaned such as hallways, landings or kid’s bedrooms. Finding the right paint isn’t just about which colour you pick. We have different types of paint designed for use in different rooms. By choosing the paint that is specially designed for the type of room you are painting, you will get the best end result.

What type of surface are you painting?

There are different types of paint for different surface materials. As well as a comprehensive selection of emulsion paints for walls and ceilings, we have a wide range of specialist paint including ones that are designed for wood furniture, brick walls, and tiles. Choosing the right paint for the right material will ensure a longer-lasting result and the best coverage.

What kind of look are you going for?

Maybe your home has quite a traditional look and would suit a subtle, matt effect paint. Or perhaps you have a more contemporary style that would look great with a satin or metallic finish paint. When selecting paint, think about what you want the final look to be, so that you can choose the correct finish as well as the right colour.

How much time do you have to complete your decorating project?

If you need to get your painting job done quickly, we have a wide range of quick-drying options that will help you get a whole room decorated in a few hours. We have quick dry wall paint, primers, and wood and metal paint to help you make the most of your time whatever you are painting.

What state is the surface in?

Some of our interior paints can be applied directly to the surface. Others may require a bit of preparation before you can begin painting. Perhaps you are painting a freshly plastered surface or previously untreated wood, or maybe you need to fill in some holes or sand down an uneven surface. We have paints and primers for all sorts of surfaces that will help you achieve a nice, even finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did what it says on the tin Cleaned the tiles thoroughly first, light sanding and wipe down then it was ready to paint on. Easy to apply. Used a brush for the edges and over grout, and a gloss roller. Covered up patterned tiles with only one coat. No extra coat needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks like new I updated the whole kitchen including the tiles and this paint was great. Had to do 2 layers of paint as there were some dark tiles that needed covering up but it was really easy the apply.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great but difficult to apply I'm pleased with the final result although it's not perfect. It took me quite a few hours to paint just a small area because it's very thick but still tries to leak down, seems to dry quickly so it's not easy to get rid of imperfections, also I had to apply two coats. Regular brush cleaner doesn't seem to work properly had to throw away the brush I was using think paint remover for rubber based paints would work better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lots of thin layers is key for a good finish I used the white and mocha ronseal tile paint to cover up the previous owners garish kitchen colour theme. I used a brush and a small gloss roller. If you put a thick layer on you will only need one layer however if it's too thick it will start to drip as it dries and it's impossible to rectify which is why I recommend 2 or 3 thin layers instead to ensure no drips and a smooth finish. Paint dries really quickly so can do multiple layers in one day. Will leave for at least 24 hours before using the kitchen for kettle etc again. Good way of revamping your kitchen on the cheap!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tile cover up Wanted a change to kitchen tiles without re tiling. Overall effect looks great and u love the colour, dud two coats could really have done with 3. Paint is quiet thick, so takes some effort to put on evenly. Tested the recommended grout pen in a small area and its hard to get the same line thickness and it looked like correction fluid, so decided not to put the grout lines back in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lovely colour Lovely coffe colour. I applied this to clean dry tiles. Used a brush for edges and grout and a gloss (foam) roller for application. If your tiles are high gloss or strong colours you WILL need a second coat. Allow 24 hours between coats. Overall i am very pleased with result and it sure beat having to retile.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good! Did the job, but the strong smell lingers. Product good. Goes on well, as long as first coat is brushed into the grooves, and the last coat is put on with a roller to hide the brush marks. Very strong smell, that takes some time to get rid of.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what is says!! Fab product and colour just what i wanted perfect match. I would ignore what is says on the tin though, states should be applied by brush, well i found that as this is quite a thick paint it wasted a lot of paint that way and introduced allot or brush strokes, unevenness and drip marks. I applied a second coat with a roller which gave a much better finish, i just wish i had applied with a roller from the start.I would have had a much better overall finnish. The fumes from this paint are quite strong and last a while so be wary of that, however i have used in a shower advises against this but so good..granted only ~2months in and no peeling or bubbling. Overall did the job i wanted, fab :) so many comments on the new tiles as well thanks!!
