Features and Benefits

This basecoat from Ronseal fills hairline cracks, stops new ones forming and seals new plaster ready for painting. Before you start, make sure the room is above 10°c and protect your surfaces with dust sheets. For newly plastered walls you'll want to leave them 7 days before using your basecoat. You'll need 2 coats, so give the tub a really good stir and pour some of the basecoat into a tray, diluting with 20% water for the first coat, no need to dilute for the second. For problem walls you should sand off any flaking paint and give any glossy surfaces a quick sand to help the basecoat stick. If you've taken off wallpaper give the walls a wipe down with sugar soap to get rid of glue, dirt or grease and leave to dry. Give the tub a really good stir, then apply using a roller or brush. It'll be ready to paint over in 4 hours.

  • Super flexible Elastomeric formula moves with the surface to ensure hairline cracks are covered permanently
  • One coat, saving you time and effort
  • Seals new plaster

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Used this product before on our old cottage. Works very well; covers cracks and minor blemishes very well. Over paints easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will definitely use again. Recently moved into a new house so did not realise what the state of the walls would be like when we decorated the lounge. They looked as though they were painted but we then found some had been papered and there was a border around the top. Once this had been stripped off we thought we may have to resort to papering to cover the cracks and different surfaces. I decided to give Ronseal basecoat a try. I'm so glad I did. I did prepare the wall as well as I could but I'm delighted with the results. Wish I had used it in other rooms now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from this product is a good basecoat to use, you just have to be quick with it or it peels as it dries, so try not to roller an area twice before it's completely dry.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Problem walls It was good at covering fine cracks in the wall, but did not cover strong colour of paint on our walls.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Watery and left lumps Having run out of Polycell 3 In 1 Basecoat I thought I'd give Ronseal Basecoat a try. When I opened the container it had a good inch of watery paint floating on top. Even after 5 minutes of hard mixing the paint remained quite watery. Very disappointed with the results, didn't do a good job at covering hairline cracks and I had to pick lumps of paint off the walls. Will stick with Polycell in future - gave a far superior finish.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor After using it it peels off doesn't bond to fresh plastered walls as it said, had to re sand wall and give it another coat, so it didn't do exactly what it said on the tin

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy this product! Certainly does not do what it says on the tin. Waste of money. Very dissapointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible product I had to remove this product from the walls with a steamer as it began to crumble from the walls. I spent more time removing this paint than I did preparing the walls in the first place. Absolutely shocking product, DO NOT BUY!
