Excellent product

Was sceptical about buying this after reading all the bad reviews. I got this to seal my kitchen cabinet doors after painting with goodhome Matt furniture paint. I applied with a small foam roller in thin even coats. Perfect finish not one problem came about. Follow the instructions on the tin and you can’t go wrong .

This product ruins the painted surface underneath

I painted a furniture with 4 coats chalk white and used the clear matt the next day. It totally ruined the work i had put into my furniture and came out streaky and uneven.

Fantastic!

I’ve used this product to lacquer my chalk painted dining set and it’s worked brilliantly! Lovely even finish using two very thin coats. Finished off my upcycle project perfectly.

Did a great job

I bought this to finish off a set of drawers i painted and it worked beautifully paint work really well protected and great matt finish. What i will say is follow the instructions on the tin if you do not allow the paint to fully cure for at least 10 days you will have a disater on your hands. Your paint job needs at least 10 days to fully dry before you apply the lacquer.

Perfect on chalk paint

I painted my bedroom furniture with chalk paint and this product is a very good finish on it. 2 coat recommended but I didn’t find the 2nd coat necessary.

Rubbish

After 3 coats on a table top we don’t know if it’s meant to be Matt Or Satin and shows up all greasy finger prints and marks. B&Q Home Lacquer is by a mile better stuff

Good Product

I wanted to write a review after seeing so many negative ones here. We repainted our wood panels on the walls with normal GoodHome one coat emulsion and needed an extra layer to protect the paint. We used the hamilton color (so dark grey). We used this lacquer and result is good. The first layer blended perfectly with the color, and the second layer left in some areas some stains but barely noticeable. I think it is because we did not use enough lacquer the second time. In any case happy with the result on top of dark emulsion

Great finish

This is a great product if used correctly (surprised to see so many bad reviews). Ensure chalk paint is completely dry before using lacquer and apply in VERY thin coats. See photo for example.

Rubbish

Painted my furniture in graphite colour chalk paint and it looked great. I decided to use this to make it more durable as I have kids and it ruined everything. It was patchy, different colours, uneven, just looked terrible

AVOID - You'll be Extremely Disappointed

Like many reviewers - This got to be the worst product I ever purchased. It is very sticky and drys unevenly with glossy patches - not 100% matt finish. More like messy, dirty finish. When it drys it looks like someone just pured some honey and tried to wipe it, but they didn't do a good job. This is the finish you'll end up with! After working for about a week on a beautiful piece of furniture with smooth chalk pain finish, this product has ruined it all - I ended up with sticky patchy finish - extreme disappointment :-( I returned whatever left of the tin to the store and I demanded a full refund, which I did. This product is faulty and should not be sold. I tried to fix the issue by using Rust-Oleum clear wax on top of the patchy laquer and that made things even worst, the laquer started peeling off, making the patches even deeper. So, I decided to purchase "Ronseal Diamond hard Clear Matt Interior varnish" and applied 3 coats and it seems to fix the issue, not completely, but I would say 85 - 90% you'll notice big difference. Just apply very thin coat every 2 hrs or so, until the patches disappear and you are happy with final finish. I will be using Ronseal Diamond hard Clear Matt Interior varnish for any future projects - it is easy to work with, it gives beautiful factory-finish like (depending on your skills and brush used), not sticky and brushes can be washed with just warm soapy water! Don't waste your money by buying Rust-Oleum Clear Matt Furniture laquer - you will be extremely disappointed with the final results.
