I wanted to change my old pine dining furniture and decided to go for a shabby chic look. This slides on absolutely beautifully, and the best bit is that the furniture did not need sanding or priming! I used two coats and this has created an old shabby chic look, but with a soft satin feel (I do not like the end feel of the chalk paint). If I wanted them completely perfectly white then I would simply do a third coat. I love the effect, it has been perfect for my project and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or purchase again. One 750ml can did two coats on a large table, and 5 chairs. I am halfway through my 6th chair and will need to buy another small can.

Good to try, but will stick to normal satin/gloss

I used this to paint an old chest of drawers.

    What I liked:
    - Virtually odourless (I'm pregnant and was fine using it)
    - Goes on really well
    - Looks like regular oil based satin / gloss
    - It doesn't need any wax or varnish to finish
    - It dries really quickly

    What I don't like:
    - It is quite drippy. I went round and round the drawers looking for any drips and always managed to miss one little bit. (in future I might use less paint in each layer to overcome this)
    - It seems to be really easy to chip. I've done 4 coats and when using the drawers for the first time it has chipped and I've had to touch up.
-The price for 750ml is the same as getting another big branded water based satin in 2.5l.

Overall I liked using it to try something new, but having seen the finish with a regular satin, I would probably stick to that as I don't trust that this furniture paint will be as durable as I want it to be.

I was recommended this product in place of Annie Sloane chalk paint which they don't stock and which is very good. I rubbed the banisters and hall part down slightly - they were dark brown varnish - the paint is thin and not enough pigment in it - it did stick, but ran quite a lot. (Vertical surfaces). I am trying to get up some enthusiasm to put on coat no four. Can't recommend.

    Waste of time and money

I used this to paint wooden window ledges and shelves. I have done 3 coats, run out of paint and it still needs at least one more coat. It is so thin that it kept dripping and then leaves hard drip marks where it falls that you can't cover up. Expensive and useless. I will not be buying any more rust oleum products again. It's made such a mess and has been a waste of time.
