Tobago Black Parasol base 35kg

Very sturdy and heavy, it’s so easy to move around as it has 4 castors in its base. You can move the base round so the wheels aren’t visible and they also have brakes to stop it moving around very practical!

Bought for a Parasol bought in B&Q Looks good and works well.

We're really happy with this base as it is really sturdy and holds my parasol free standing with no risk of it falling over. Because its on wheels, I can move it across the patio fairly easily when the sun goes across the garden, bearing in mind it's so heavy and the patio isn't completely flat. The castors are easy to screw in to the base on assembly - as long as you lock the brakes on them first, other wise they just spin round as another reviewer found. Just a shame I cant seem to get another one.

Bought this as I am disabled and thought it would make life easier being able to wheel it about rather than struggling to move my cast iron one. What I hadn't reckoned on was having problems assembling it. Nowhere does it state on the page that one has to insert the castors oneself. That shouldn't be a problem but I literally tore the skin off my fingers trying to get the castors in place as it involves screwing them into rubber with no screw head to assist and the castors spin round while trying to screw them in by hand. It was hard work as well and I simply didn't have the strength to screw them in fully as the only way was to try to hold them tight and screw and push at the same time and the head of the so called screw is such an odd shape it chewed my skin up. This meant I had the thing in the middle of my sitting room floor (where the delivery man dropped it off for me) for several days until I managed to get help with it as it was far too heavy for me to move. So much for my plan to just rip the box open and wheel it to my back door then down my ramp into my garden!! Surely the castors could be installed at the manufacturing stage or the screws could have actual screw heads to make them easier for the customer to install. If I had known it would be such a problem I would not have bought it and anyone with any strength or dexterity problems should stay well clear unless they have someone who can assemble it for them. Now it is on my paved patio I have discovered that at every join in the paving the castors get stuck so it doesn't even move easily which is a huge disappointment. I am sure it would be ok on a smooth surface but the castors are just too small to cope with it's weight moving on normal paving. Another problem is that the rubber around the base is actually coming away in places leaving a gap between the base and the rubber which looks unsightly. The item is a good idea but poorly thought out.

We're in the middle of Storm Hector here in Edinburgh and it hasn't budged an inch. Please get more in, my neighbour wants one!
