Hickory Shaft split on second use
Peter67 - 1 year ago
I bought this product last year (mid 2018) but never got around to using it to remove bamboo plant roots. In March 2019 I assembled the hickory shaft onto the steel pick axe head with no problem and promptly tried it out for about 5 minutes. I then tried in earnest today (May 19) to proceed on to this onerous task after about 10 mins of its second use the shaft split. The cause seems to have emanated from a joint in the hickory shaft near the head of the pick axe please see the attached photos.

it was the best tool for the job, had no problems and it was worth the money
snapped

One swing and handle split in two, head left in tree root. Last mattock / pick lasted me 10 years. 3 stars as I assume manufacture error and not common design flaw
