Bought this a month ago to replace an unbranded unit that had failed. Installed easily and am sure it will last as a Yale product

Colditz - 1 year ago

I am having to replace a Yale latch that has only been in use 28months. I could not believe a Yale latch has failed in that short time frame. There has not been any excessive use / stress or impact damage to cause such a failure. My father was a carpenter and joiner and always fitted Yale products as they exuded quality and good engineered craftsmanship. Sad to say NOT ANYMORE. The latch failed because of the poor material it has been made of. The main latch has broken at the square hole and the metal of the latch looks like it is cheap gun metal. I will now have to find something made with care from quality materials that will last longer than the guarantee. Not impressed at all. When I get a new latch I will add photos of the new latch and the failure of the Yale.

Latch mechanism offset!

The only reason I've given any stars at all is because the quality is very good, BUT....both B&Q and Yale fail to advertise that the latch mechanism is not central to the front plate. So if you are replacing a latch and you've been left with a hole that is dead centre in the door, this latch will be offset. Why all latches cannot be made so everything is central, I don't know. Maybe so if you start off with Yale, you have to keep buying them....Clever!
