In this article, you’ll find ideas for decorating your kid’s bedroom, for making the dining and living room more child friendly and even some imaginative craft ideas.
Let’s get started…
Christmas decorating ideas for kids
Get crafty and creative
Let your kids’ imagination run wild with a play den where they can escape to and play games in. Why not get creative and help them to construct their very own den? Use thin planks of wood and fabric to create a tepee tent, or if you’d rather use household items, you could put a spare sheet on top of a couple of clothes drying racks for a makeshift den. Decorate the inside of the tent with string lights, like our Copper Wire Lights – set to be a big seller this year! We also love these adorable Metal Mitten and Hat String Lights, and our Fluffy Colour Changing Light Chain. You could also make your own bunting from old pieces of fabric to hang around the tent. Whether it’s playtime, downtime or even naptime, every child’s bedroom should have a den!
Use string lights to make attractive designs on the wall, like this Christmas tree and house design made with multi-coloured string lights (pictured) using suction clips or blue tack. Or similarly, attach baubles to the wall to create a tree or star design. This makes a lovely and unique feature that kids will be proud to show their friends.
Another fun decorating idea is to fill a glass bowl or large vase with an assortment of jazzy baubles.
Perhaps you could set aside an afternoon to get crafty with your kids. Use glue and glitter to create a selection of unique baubles, or use chalk to decorate our Blackboard Baubles (pictured). Your bowl or vase can then be placed in the middle of the dining table or a coffee table to make an attractive centrepiece.
Use colourful decorations
Designed with children in mind, our Christmas Vacation collection is all about bold, bright and cheerful decorations. You can transform your kid’s bedroom into a magical wonderland with eye-catching baubles, like our Snowman Character Bauble and Angel Tree Topper these are the ideal size for a small tree that will fit perfectly in your child’s bedroom.
We stock a selection of brightly coloured 3ft Christmas trees, the 3ft Orelle Tree Pink (pictured) is great for instantly adding colour. Adorn the tree with hanging decorations, like this Polar Bear Felt Decoration, or the Silver Glitter Unicorn Decoration from our Vintage Christmas collection. Use our gorgeous Fairy String Lights to dress the tree, and finish the tree off with our Angel Tree Topper. Putting up a small tree in your children’s bedroom means that they can decorate it themselves. It also makes a nice alternative to a stocking, as you can place little presents under the tree as a nice surprise for kids when they wake up on Christmas Day morning.
Other ways to add some Christmas cheer to their room is to use indoor light silhouettes and string lights, such as the Multicolour Wooden Star (pictured). This multicolour star also acts as a nightlight for particularly young children who may have a fear of the dark. We adore these funky red car string lights - perfect for placing along a shelf or over a doorway.
Funky stockings and gift wrapping
Use attractive paper, bows and ribbons to make the presents you give your children look extra appealing. This year we’ll be offering a selection of wrapping paper in different designs. Our Christmas character wrapping paper features cartoon penguins and polar bears skiing. For older children, our Fluffy penguin wrapping paper is a lovely choice showing adorable fluffy penguins and holly against a white background.
Another nice touch that kids will love, is to put presents into a gift sack. Not only does this make Christmas morning more exciting, it also stops presents from getting muddled up. We have a traditional Snowflake Hessian Sack, and a Red Felt Character Sack. Using a gift sack for kids makes the whole experience even more magical!
And don’t forget stockings. They can be hung on the mantelpiece or on your child’s bedroom door. A stocking is a good option if you prefer to open big presents after the Christmas meal or later in the day. This way children are kept entertained with some little toys or gadgets, and it’ll stop them from asking to open the presents under the tree all day. We have lots of different types of stockings, from a traditional Red and White classic stocking to really eye-catching stockings such as our Unicorn Stocking (pictured), and our Red & White Santa stocking.
And let’s not forget our pets! We sell adorable pet stockings too. This is a great way to get children involved, as they can help choose what pet treats you can buy to fill up the stocking. Choose from our adorable Woof Stocking and our Meow Stocking.
Soft toys and musical animations
Bring the bedroom to life with furry toy animals and characters that can sing, dance and move around! This year we are bringing back our firm favourites, including the Unicorn Animation, Fairy Animation, Dancing Santa Animation, the Roll Over Cat and the adorable little Talk Back Elf, as well as many more! These friendly faces can make a nice addition to the bed along with cushions and funky bedding. Or, they can sit on the floor in a toy corner or on top of a bedside table or chest of drawers.
