The issue of unfit housing has never been more important. Alongside our parent company, Kingfisher, we have published a report into unfit housing in the UK, entitled If Walls Could Talk.

If Walls Could Talk finds that some 9.5 million people (18%) in the UK feel they live with significant housing issues, and of those 74% feel that they have little or no control to resolve the situation. Problems range from inadequate heating or insulation to pests and overcrowding, with the three most common problems being cold, damp, and noise.

People living in unfit housing are most likely to:

  • be young
  • have a disability
  • be living in urban areas
  • be on low incomes
  • work full-time live with children under the age of 18
