Carbon & Energy
Towards zero carbon at B&Q
2023 target: 90% absolute reduction in CO2e compared to 2016 baseline. Operating more efficiently has helped us to achieve a 31% reduction so far – and this has saved the business around £52 million ahead of the average British retailer.
At B&Q, the targets we’ve set for reducing our carbon emissions are challenging. We have changed our lighting to efficient LEDs and are working to ensure our stores are heated efficiently. We are fitting solar photovoltaic panels to many of our stores and distribution centres to generate renewable energy.
At home, ensuring that heating controls are set to maximise efficiency without sacrificing comfort is a good place to start. Changing to LED lighting can help to reduce electricity bills. Better insulation and draught proofing means that our homes are more likely to get to a comfortable temperature on a freezing cold day.
Simple changes can have a big impact on energy bills. Check that your fridge is set to between 3 and 5°C. Only run your dishwasher and washing machine when you have a full load. Turn off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.
