Buying guides

Buyer's guide to kitchen sinks

Buyer's guide to kitchen sinks

Choosing the right kitchen sink is about more than just design. Important for washing hands, rinsing vegetables, cleaning up afterwards and so much more, it’s something you’ll use every day. With that in mind, you need to make sure that you’ve chosen the right type of material, style and have added the perfect accessories to make it work for you.

Are you updating your entire kitchen, with your new sink being part of the refurbishment? Or are you just looking for a replacement for what you have currently? Either way, you need to think about the size and shape of your new sink, whether you want it with a drainer, as well as the type of material that your worktop is made from – as not all sinks work with all worktops.

For those who are starting from scratch, size and position are completely up to you (dependent on the plumbing) and so think about what you’ve had previously and what you’d like to change about it. Was it big enough? Would you like more than one bowl? And of course, think about the overall style you’re going for – a modern look kitchen may suit a toughened glass, 1.5 bowl sink, while a more traditional style would suit a ceramic or Belfast sink.

If you’re replacing what you have currently, be sure to take accurate measurements of the sink and holes to ensure that your new sink will fit. But while you may be restricted by size, do explore different material options to completely refresh the look: if you had stainless steel one before, why not have a composite sink now? You’ll also find that updating your kitchen taps or adding some new sink accessories could make you feel as though you’re in a completely new kitchen.

Let us help you find the right sink for your home and add the finishing touch to your dream kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks the business I have just had this fitted and it looks fantastic. It does not show watermarks and the main sink is nice and deep. Easy to fit and very robust. Ridiculously good value for money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bargain! Nice sink, comes complete with wastes, brackets and all waste pipes and trap! The main waste is a cable operated pop-up type. But not sure if I will actually fit this. Note there are no tap holes drilled so you will have to drill these yourself. so if you use the pop-up waste you need to drill 2 holes, one at the back for the tap and another at the front for the waste knob. Sink not fitted yet but I had a "dry run" with the fittings etc to check. Just one thing to note, the instructions are appalling. No fitting instructions or template for the sink (although no issue for the average DIY person), but the waste instructions consist of an exploded diagram on a very small piece of paper - so not good at all. No excuse for this, an a4 sized sheet would be much clearer. But despite this, this sink is very good value for money overall. Buy it while stocks last!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good and bad he sink looks great in the kitchen. It wipes well so looks lovely when cleaned. Downsides : when its wet in some places it takes AGES to dry making it looks messy. I can't stand looking at it so I have to give it a wipe down with a WET cloth (but on the plus side. makes you keep your sink nice and clean at all times!) The metal plugholes themselves come out.(added photo so u know what I mean) they are awful! they easily turn so that you completely block the sink so if you left the tap running by mistake you'd have a flood on your hands. Everytime I empty the washing up bowl it knocks them out of place so I'm constantly having to reset them every tmie I use the sink.
