Arbutus Unedo Compacta (Strawberry Tree) 9cm Potted Plant x 2

This hardy shrub makes an attractive focal point for the garden, and has year-round interest. It is an evergreen shrub with interesting oval shaped leaves and leathery peeling cinnamon brown bark. In the autumn, thousands of white scented flowers appear, followed by masses of bright red strawberry-like fruits. The fruits are edible and have a sharp after-taste if eaten raw, but they can be made into jams and preserves for a sweeter, guava-like flavour.The Arbutus Compacta is an ideal specimen shrub for a sheltered area. When first planted out in the garden during the winter, it is vulnerable to frosty conditions, so it’s a good idea to give the Arbutus a garden fleece coat, until it becomes fully established.
