How to fit wall plugs

How to fit wall plugs

Wall plugs are essential when hanging cabinets, mirrors and shelves - in fact anything you want to attach to your walls. A normal screw will not securely stay in plasterboard or masonry without a wall plug. They expand to securely grip the sides of the hole you have drilled, and will help to hold the screw in place without damaging your walls.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job Used one plug to hang a 25" x 33", 7.2kg picture on a plasterboard wall (with a small picture hanger of 2mm thickness). Works very well but could not have done the job without a drill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish I got these today to mount some curtain rails and a bathroom cabinet. The heads snapped off the plastic plugs when screwing them into the plasterboard for the curtain rails. This was while having already drilled a pilot hole. I haven't bothered trying them with the cabinet yet as nowhere on the website did it say what sort of weight it can hold. Only when I received the packs did it say "medium" weight. I have no idea what the definition of medium weight is... Very disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really bad - don't work at all These went into the plasterboard OK but as soon as I started putting in the screws they lost purchase and started spinning round with the screw. Then they fell out of the wall. Now I have ugly holes in the wall that I need to fill and make good, and I need to find another way to put up my brackets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Utterly useless The nylon self drive plug with screw is supposed to be capable of drilling into plasterboard. It cannot - you have to start with a pilot hole. Even then the screw slot strips as the plug gets further into the plasterboard - the head is just not strong enough to support the driving force necessary to screw it in. To complete the job you have to start with a new plug.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor description I have just put up a shelf using these items. Unfortunately the screws are too long and cannot be tightened sufficiently to secure the brackets. Instructions say a maximum fixture thickness of 10 mm. My brackets are about 4 mm. The screws are fast in the plugs and attempts to remove the screws simply removes the plugs from the wall complete with fast screw and bracket. So I now have 8 large holes in the plaster board and have to think of another way to put up the shelf. Unfortunately there is insufficient clearance behind the plasterboard for toggle type fixings. I think the instruction should give a minimum thickness of fixing as well as the maximum.
