How to understand building and planning regulations

How to understand building and planning regulations

What are planning and building controls? Why do they exist? Can you deal with them yourself or is it best to ask a specialist? As with any task, you can decide for yourself when you know exactly what's involved.

First of all, it's important to understand what planning and building regulations are. It's easy to think of them as restrictive, bureaucratic tools put in place purely to thwart your ambitions. However, they're essential safety mechanisms which have been designed to protect you, your neighbours and the local environment.

The regulatory bodies will give you permission to carry out your plans unless there are very good reasons not to - in which case they must explain their decision. And if you disagree, you have the right to appeal against it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Irwin Jack Panel Saw (L)500mm " This Saw from Irwin is a pleasure to use. It feels comfortable in the hand and glides through wood as it cuts on the pull back as well as the push through. If you're looking for a general purpose, quality Saw with good performance, then this is the one for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Went straight through! After buying a matching pair with my husband on Friday neither of us could wait to get stuck in. Boy was this baby sweet. I attacked a great length with gusto and reduced it to a manageable handful in no time, with hardly any mess. It all left me very satisfied indeed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good diy saw I bought this saw, after many years of buying the very cheepest value saw available, and I'm pleased I did. It was still a reasonable price & the difference in the cut was apparent as soon as I started sawing. It made the job much easier, went through the wood with ease and with a lot less bicep power. I would definately recommend it!
