'Little Gem' is one of the earliest varieties to mature, producing a tight cluster of crisp, green outer leaves with cream coloured leaves at the heart.
Planting of this lettuce should occur from mid March onwards. It grows well under cloches and also has excellent root aphid resistance making it a gardener's favourite.
Grow in a sunny spot in moisture retentive soil that has been enriched with manure or garden compost. Water after planting, with plant food to prevent transportation shock. It's also best to water with plant food added during its growing season to allow for a good crop.
