Before you begin

A few questions about how you’ll be using your mower can help narrow down your shopping options to find the perfect one.

How large is the lawn?

While smaller spaces are better suited to compact, lightweight mowers, larger gardens need a more durable and robust lawnmower. Greater power is needed to get around these broader lawns quickly and easily. Similarly, there are a number of innovative features that will help make even the toughest mowing job simple so look out for these.

Where will the lawnmower be stored?

Before deciding on the size of your lawnmower, think about both access and storage. Do you need to pass through gates in order to mow your back and front gardens? If so, be sure to measure these in advance of buying to avoid snapping up a model too big to fit through the doors. The same is true of where you'll be storing your lawnmower – make sure you can get it into your shed or garage, as well as having enough space to keep it out of the way.

How close is the lawn to a power source?

A power source close to your lawn gives you more options when it comes to your choice of lawnmower. However, don’t fret if your garden is very large or your lawn away from the power source – we have a wide range of mowers to suit every situation and size of garden.

Let's go through your options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Only used it a couple of times but for a small medium garden it does the job quite nice and easy to put it together, lightweight the only issue I got it the length of the wire but nothing a extension cable won't fix

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Design flaw I loved most things about this mower. It is a good size, shape, comfortable to use and light and changing cutting length is easy. However, there's a problem with the plastic on the top of the collection bag that it doesn't meet with the flap properly and the grass flies at you when you use it!! I read a similar review so I followed their advice to buy the 35cm model for £16 extra. I set the new one up this eve and the model up is much better with a place to wrap chord when you're not using it, the handle folds for storage should you need it to, the grass bow is sturdier, the grass length setting is even easier and it comes with a mulch attachment. I would strongly recommend going for 35cm model.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Covered in grass Bought yesterday returned today The grass catcher was bent so ended up with more grass on us than in the grass box went to get a new grass box but they were all like that spent put an extra £16 and got the model up that has a bit of plastic on the grass box to seal it

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Design fault Happy with the first use, but during the second, the circlip at the top of the blade shaft came off, the shaft dropped so that the large belt wheel cut out the floor of the mower deck, dropping further the brake arms came off the brake drum and the shaft jammed solid. I have put it back together without the brake arms, the circlip has been replaced, but it really is not large enough, nor secure enough, to support the weight of the blade shaft, and the vertical loads from the rotating blades. It is a shame as the overall build quality is very good, and when it works it is a delight to use. The blade shaft needs a positively located collar to support its upper end, possibly a simple pinned one, I might get around to a proper repair on this one, as running without the centrifugal brake introduces its own hazards. Under the circumstances, not a wise buy.
