Product Information

Apply this basecoat from the Ronseal Problem wall paints range to internal ceilings & walls, using a brush or roller, to prepare the surface for painting. It super flexible elastomeric formula moves with the surface to ensure hairline cracks are covered permanently. It takes 4hours to dry and will cover up to 5m² per litre on average.

Features and Benefits

This basecoat from Ronseal fills hairline cracks, stops new ones forming and seals new plaster ready for painting. Before you start, make sure the room is above 10°c and protect your surfaces with dust sheets. For newly plastered walls you'll want to leave them 7 days before using your basecoat. You'll need 2 coats, so give the tub a really good stir and pour some of the basecoat into a tray, diluting with 20% water for the first coat, no need to dilute for the second. For problem walls you should sand off any flaking paint and give any glossy surfaces a quick sand to help the basecoat stick. If you've taken off wallpaper give the walls a wipedown with sugar soap to get rid of glue, dirt or grease and leave to dry. Give the tub a really good stir, then apply using a roller or brush. It'll be ready to paint over in 4 hours.

How to prepare your walls for decorating

Walls almost always need some surface preparation before you can start painting. Even brand-new plaster needs sealing. You should fill any cracks and holes and make sure all surfaces are clean, smooth and dry. You can paint over emulsion-painted surfaces that are in good condition, but make certain you strip back or sand off any peeling paint.

If you're painting on bare wood, plaster or metal surfaces, you'll get a better result if you use a primer first. It provides a surface which the paint can bond to and stops the paint being absorbed. Find out more what you need and for what surface.
