Product information

Wisteria Sinensis boasts lilac-blue pendants that make a breathtaking sight, with a heavenly scent that will attract bees and pollinators. This brilliant climber can be trained onto trellises, fences or walls for stunning displays every year. This hardy climber can reach up to 9m high and 5m accross. Ideal for patio, walls and fences, cottage gardens, scented gardens, and as a specimen plan. Provide the twining stems with sturdy support, such as strong trellis or wires attached to walls.

    • Planting period - All year
    • Grow wisteria plants, in a sunny or semi shaded site in any moist, well drained soil. Wisteria flower buds can be damaged by hard spring frosts so choose a sheltered position. Prior to planting add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil. Alternatively grow wisteria plants in large containers of soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate framework to support its trained branches. Standard Wisteria will require particularly sturdy support when grown as a small weeping tree to prevent its head being damaged by strong winds.
    • Caution: Harmful if eaten. Feed and water regularly until fully established. In autumn or spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Prune wisteria in July and again in February. During the first two years, prune wisteria to create a framework of permanent stems. Tie in selected lateral shoots to sturdy supports and cut back unwanted growth. Once the desired framework has been created, continue pruning wisteria twice a year to contain the plants growth within its allotted space.
    • Bees & Butterfly friendly - Attracts pollinators
    • Soil type - Average garden soil
    • Soil pH - Any
